I bought a speed queen a few months ago and love it. A lot of people have had problems with suds coming out the vent pipe with speed queens. I did all the research on the internet but finally decided to call speed queen customer service. They explained what causes the issue and suggested I wash everything on permanent press and I have not had issues since.

I want a speed queen but the response from them to make it work right basically saying, the other settings we gave you are worthless? Unless I’m missing something.

He explained to me that it has to do with the amount of water in each load per government regulations (eco mode). The permanent press cycle puts the most amount of water in the load in eco mode. You also have the option to press “deep fill button” on any cycle and that should alleviate the suds issue.

They said the suds coming out the vent pipe were due to the lack of water. I’ve done what they said it I haven’t had any problems since.

That was me. Had a late 80's Maytag hand-me-down from the parents. It gave up in 2021.
The bottom tub seal started seeping just enough to let water into the transmission and finally locked it up. It was going to require me tearing the whole thing apart, $600+ for the parts and a week to get them.
At that point it was time to just let it go.

My parents have a set of Maytags my dad bought before they got married 42 years ago. I can't imagine how inefficient they are but outside of some wear related repairs and replacement parts, they're like tanks. Only issue was the last repair he did on the washer, they're getting to be so old you've got to search a little harder for parts. They're out there, just not common stock on the typical appliance sites.

Can you imagine getting 40 years out of an appliance today?

What model SQ washer does everyone have? Is there a consensus favorite that everyone leans towards?

My wife is watching the current machine like a hawk, praying it dies so she can go get a Speed Queen. I told her to just got get it already, but she doesn't want to be frivolous.

Nah, I stated when I was washer shopping I wanted a non pinko commie fig version. Except I didn't say "fig." Guess some tender hearted fig reported my post.

Still using my whirlpool from 06. Had the bears replaced a few years ago. Repairman told me to hang on to it as long as I can

I have my grandparents' washer and dryer from the 90s. I've replaced parts on both in the last 2 decades but they have been working without issue for the last 5 years.

I see a lot more value in getting a top line washer over a top line dryer.
Naw, frick all that shite. The pre-cycle where it locks the lid a weighs the load?

That’s stupid.

The 60 minute “Fast” cycle?

That’s stupid.

The washer trying to save 6 of the 12 gallons of total water used in a wash event?

That’s stupid.

The washer trying to save $0.18 per wash event on electricity?

That’s stupid.

My neanderthal basic Speed Queen washers have a Load Size knob, a Water Temperature knob and the Timer knob.

They use a lot of water and electricity compared to a new fancy washer and absolutely clean the frick out of clothes in 30 minutes.

The cost savings per load is under $0.50 per load for the fancy more expensive less reliable washer over the old-school SQ washer.

My time is worth much more than potentially saving $0.50 per load and the simple SQs don’t break down nearly as often.

And bonus I have cleaner clothes to boot.

I have the extra rinse on so that alleviated the suds issue.

We tried our neighbors SQ. I washed my guest room queen size quilt.

It stopped their machine 3 times.

I did not buy one.

I bought this beast last year. All analog, built to wash commercially and will probably never die.
