Imagine if he tried to pay with a $2 at Taco Bell.

quote:

But instead of breakfast, Ellis got a ride to the police station and more than three months in jail after he was wrongfully accused of using counterfeit cash, he says.

Jokes aside, how long does it take to figure out the $10 was real? Boston PD is inexcusably stupid and I hope the dude gets paid. Preferably from the Boston PD pension fund.

Is that ordeal really worth $950,000?

Is he claiming lost wages from his non-existent job or diminished quality of life from sleeping on the street?

Ellis' attorney said the cashier likely wouldn't have questioned if the money was real if a white man in a suit handed him the same bill

Or a black guy in a suit.

In jail from Nov to Feb in Boston probably beat the hell out of living on the street.

Give him his $10 bill back and some gift cards to BK and call it even.

Dude, they held him 3 months for something that never happened. Its Taco Bell that held the responsibility of proving it was fake.

My problem is this, are we really that inefficient where the officer cant stop at a bank in the way to the jail and ask for their professional opinion?

Did you read the article? The event occurred at a Burger King not a Taco Bell.

Burger King didn’t hold him in jail so why should they be liable for the jail/ police department mess up.

The fact that his name was ruined I would say it should be. Not only that but to also discourage police from doing a half arse job in the future.

I caused the confusion with the Taco Bell reference. One of the first viral Internet stories was a guy who tried to use a $2 at Taco Bell and got accused of it being fake because the cashier and shift manager both said there's no such thing as a $2 bill.

Burger King is stupid, but it's pathetic that popo couldn't tell the bill was real until 3 months later. It shouldn't even have taken 3 hours.

what kind of business that accepts cash all day doesn't have a counterfeit pen in the office somewhere?

I was accused of using a fake $5 bill to buy some gas or something at a gas station. Fat black bitch kept looking at it in the light, then tore it a little bit where that line is in it. Stupid bitch still didn't believe it said it was fake. I was like, "Why would I risk a felony to use a fake $5 bill at your shitty gas station?" and walked out.

Plus why would anyone fake a $5? I've never tried it, but I'm going to guess that it would cost more than $5 to counterfeit a $5.

Ive always wondered why people DONT fake 5 and 10 dollar bills. They are never checked and it would draw very little to no attention to see someone asking a clerk to exchange smaller bills for a 20.

I don’t see the problem with him spending 3 months in jail. I’m sure he’s guilty of something
