Extra ICE was brought in because Minneapolis does not follow federal law when dealing with illegals. Local and state authorities do not detain and also said they would not help.

That’s not actually totally accurate. There is no federal law that requires jails to comply with ICE detainers. Likewise, all levels of police agencies are free to sign 287(g) agreements or not, but ICE can’t force local police to cooperate with them. Now is it a bad public policy to not honor ICE detainers, especially for violent crimes, probably very strongly yes, but it’s not that they are “not following federal law.”

For accuracy sake this was CBP today, not ICE. Most of the big hoopla recently has been CBP too.

The numbers don’t lie. Overall this has been hugely successful for the trump administration.

Republicans are worried about Trump’s deportation campaign, and our new poll shows why

quote:

The administration’s forceful approach across the U.S. risks repelling the swing voters who fueled Trump’s return to the White House but are increasingly wary of how the president is implementing a central campaign promise. Further complicating the issue is that Republicans are split on the best way to address the eroding support, with some in the party viewing it as a messaging problem, while others argue that the administration’s policy itself is driving voters’ concerns.

“If we don’t change our approach, it will have a negative effect on the midterms, for sure,” said Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), who recently decided not to seek reelection.

A new POLITICO poll underscores those worries: Nearly half of all Americans — 49 percent — say Trump’s mass deportation campaign is too aggressive, including 1 in 5 voters who backed the president in 2024. In a sign of growing discomfort among the president’s base, more than 1 in 3 Trump voters say that while they support the goals of his mass deportation campaign, they disapprove of the way he is implementing it.

quote:

Most Trump voters do support his mass deportations campaign, with 55 percent saying the actions, including his widespread deployment of ICE agents across the U.S. are “about right,” the POLITICO Poll with Public First finds. But there is a notable split between Trump’s strongest 2024 voters and those who are more malleable: Among the 2024 Trump voters who do not identify as MAGA, a more moderate group of Trump supporters, 29 percent say his campaign is too aggressive. Seventeen percent of these voters say it is not aggressive enough.

And a 43 percent plurality of non-MAGA Trump voters say they support the goals of Trump’s deportation agenda but not how he is implementing it, compared to 28 percent of MAGA Trump voters — his strongest supporters — who say the same.

That's from today.

This Pew data is from December.

Growing shares say the Trump administration is doing ‘too much’ to deport immigrants in the U.S. illegally

quote:

Across partisan coalitions and racial and ethnic groups, more Americans say now than in March that the Trump administration is doing too much on deportations:

Stacked bar charts showing that more Republicans and Democrats now say the Trump administration is doing ‘too much’ on deportations.

86% of Democrats and Democratic leaners say the administration is doing too much, up 11 percentage points since March.

20% of Republicans and Republican leaners say this, up 7 points.
Hispanic Republicans are far more likely than White Republicans to say the Trump administration is doing too much. This gap has widened since March.

47% of Hispanic Republicans say the administration is doing too much, up from 28% in March.

13% of White Republicans say this, up from 8%.

Hey pal, you just told me he didn't impede and then told me he turned around to get back in the agent's face

Which is it?

Impede in a law enforcment setting would be him getting in the way of them detaining someone, making an arrest, doing something that isnt just shoving some defenseless woman. Surely you could infer that from my post.

There is absolutely nothing heroic about bringing a loaded gun to antagonize federal law enforcement doing their duty, asswipe

The dude's dad was already interviewed and he said he BEGGED his son not to impede or get involved and what did this selfish sack of shite do? Went directly against his own father's wishes and now his poor dad has to bury his son after the most avoidable death of all time

FWIW, I think this is a bad take too. The federal government has the authority to enforce immigration law unimpeded. The rhetoric from local and state politicians absolutely had a hand in what happened today. People can be annoying and blow their gay little rape whistles and post snarky memes about ICE on social media. All that can be true and this would still be a bad shoot.

So in your opinion, every single state in this nation undergoing ICE operations (including Louisiana) lets the government control us? Is that what's happening ?
