I would stay away from snake skin boots. I once had a pair of python skin boots and they got wet one day while I was on my motorcycle and got caught in an afternoon shower.
When they dried the scales that make up the exterior of the skin tended to curl up a bit and never smoothed out after that.

I love the look and feel of ostrich, but don't love the price point.
I currently have a black pair of ostrich leg. It's a very durable material with a unique look. It has the scale pattern down the center of the foot like the belly scales of snakeskin but they don't feel rough to the touch.

“Elephant if you can find it.”
Was told by boot guy first time I bought something other than leather…
You want a boot like a slipper or a boot for life.. I am cost effective so I said for life.. he said quill ostrich for a slipper .. elephant for life.. I bought that elephant pair in 1989… still have them and look good..
I have a black ridgeback gator for church and dress..

My answer depends on whether or not you’ll be wearing them with pimped out Gucci suits.

My late dad had a pair of alligator boots. One of his customers had the skins imported from France, then had the boots made in Houston by a boot maker ( I think it was the Black Jack Boot Co.) The skins covered the whole boot, including the shaft.
Man, he loved those boots.

Alligator, hands down.
Alligator. Make alligator trapping great again.
When I was young in Central Florida, we could swim in the lakes without a worry. Large gators got trapped and harvested for their hides very quickly. Then some idiot in DC decided they were endangered. Now every waterway has monsters in it.
