Welp, according to the survey statistically you should still be married to her.

Nope. Not at all.

The graph would be valid IF everyone had to get married at a set age. If not, the graph is crap.

Is there a minimum or maximum age for a first marriage?

Birthrates and divorces both trending down…

Maybe it was the kids’ fault

Is there a maximum age for a first marriage?

See the graph where it shows marriages in the 80s? It says 49% of first marriages in the 80s ended in divorce. That means you're apart of the 51% that didn't. Hope this helps you to be able to read future graphs instead of dismissing them immediately.

Why do you think this is at all relevant?

His stats are deceptive. Divorce has declined because marriage has declined too. No divorce possible if you never tie the knot in the first place.

You wouldn't expect newer marriages to have the same divorce rates as older marriages. A lot of Boomers got divorced after the kids had grown up a little or after the bloom had wilted off the rose.

It's like saying a new car is more reliable than an old beater. Yeah, sure, talk to me in ten years.

I also think money is a big factor. Our grandparents got married and stayed married because they had to form an economic unit to survive. Boomers had economic independence so they could afford to split into two households. Younger generations have returned to their grandparents situation. Divorce is simply less of an option in the modern economy.

That doesn’t make it deceptive

His implied argument is that you can't tie the decade of marriage to a specific generation, but it doesn't take a genius to see that those would be closely related.

Because, if the supposition is that people getting married in the 2000's are some how less likely to divorce because of societal factors relating to when they were born, then people getting married for the first time in their 40's+ might just skew that data.

Couple that with the average age of first marriage has been increasing for years. In the 1970's it was 21-22 y/o vs 29 today and the data doesn't line up.

“Go frick yourself” to anyone that bashes boomers.

frick you too

worst generation ever and its not even close. allowed affirmative action and diversity politics to take over while all these frickin career politicians that have been running us into the ground built up their own bank accounts free of term limits.

they made sure to do it after they grandfathered themselves in so as not to be affected by the layoffs to make room for the diversity hires either.

flooded this country with 10s of millions of immigrants and illegals. housing crisis parts 1, 2, and 3. global war on terror.
all the covid bullshite? none of that was to protect younger generations or line their pockets.

all the while just gaslighting the frick out of younger generations with that "just work hard" bullshite like they didnt stack the deck against them. nothing today is comparable to the benefits of growing up boomer. not food prices, not gas, not housing, not the job market. not marriage. not the value of a single dollar or the paper its printed on.

there were obviously dumber less educated generations, but noone fricked over whos to come after them quite as much as boomers have.

worried about the country your kids or grandkids will be living in? thank a boomer.

That’s not what the data implies. Learn to read before being so definitely wrong

Looks like Boomers did a good job raising children who are less likely to divorce.

That's EXACTLY what the graph is trying to imply.

Fewer people are getting married. Half of the rate of the 70's and 80's. Those that are getting married are 100% into it vs that's just what couples do.

Bingo, why get married when your rich Uncle Sam will support you and your children?
