in texas, but i talked to our school master about it recently. they're all in on diversity and do a lot of good things to make sure some poorer kids can attend and keep up. it's the right kind of diversity that i can support.
he recently talked about a conference they went to involving that and i kinda hemmed and hawed to see if it was Critical Race Theory and 1619 project stuff. He figured out what i was getting at and said that neither ideas will enter the school curriculum. that's just our school, but i get the sense that it's coming down the pipeline for most.

It's bad enough that the message is severely skewed when it comes to "diversity". Like others have said in this thread, it's not about including all races. It's about all races other than whites being given all advantages. And the whites are supposed to sit back and feel guilty about slavery that most of us had nothing to do with. That's what they call "diversity".
My main beef is with the LGBTQ bullshite. frick that. I will not raise my children to think any of that is normal. That's not to say that I want them being hateful and growing up to go shoot up gays in a night club. But at the same time, they will not think it's normal for a man to become a woman or vice versa. I've already had to have that conversation with my kids and they know that people who do that are sick in the head.

That's not to say that I want them being hateful and growing up to go shoot up gays in a night club. But at the same time, they will not think it's normal for a man to become a woman or vice versa. I've already had to have that conversation with my kids and they know that people who do that are sick in the head.

Lots of diversity in academia these days. Except for, of course, diversity of thought.

I am usually against forced racial conversation, but teaching kids about equality and that skin color doesn't matter seems like an ok thing to me.

Serious question - have you read any of these books being suggested?
We have small kids and have a few great Sesame Street books that talk about the irrelevance of skin color, types of hair, face structure, etc.
I think that's a good thing. I haven't seen any of these books saying that white people are bad.

I'm just going off the books I've seen about stuff like this. Calm down bubba.
Have you gone through these childrens books on these topics? They aren't some white devil narrative, at least that I've seen.

Or perhaps it's important for two reasons. One, for non-white children to be able to read books about people like them and experiences those like them go through as children. If your childhood library had been filled with books written by brown people based on the experiences of brown people, you probably wouldn't have cared as much about reading.
Secondly, yes, it's good for children to get exposure to other cultures and backgrounds. I understand this may be difficult for those of you living in the lily-white sticks, sheltered from all them damn coloreds, but the world outside of your bubble is changing (whites will soon be minority in this country) and we need to prepare kids of all races, religions, etc., for those demographic changes.
