The Mercury News

Video in link.

quote:

Ten police officers fired 99 rounds at a 19-year-old who was hiding in the trunk of a Honda Civic, killing the man last week in San Francisco’s Mission District, police revealed Monday night at a town hall meeting.

Some Mexican thought it would be prudent to fire at the cops. Cops reply with 99 shots.

People are outraged at the excessive amount of violence the cops showed.

Now I understand that 99 fricking rounds is excessive. But if you fire at the cops, what the frick do you think is going to happen?

You deserve to die if you're going to try and kill someone.

Pretty simple, don't shoot at police.

So people are ok with the cops killing him, but they killed him too much?

The residents at the town hall meeting about an open and shut case are in an uproar.

That want answers as to why nobody was there to "de-escalate" the situation.

Cops shouldn't have guns and I think San Francisco should become a gun free city completely, it's just the best option for them and probably leads to the most peace.

I'd love to know what other de-escalation could be taken other than making sure the perp is fricking dead

The cops used proportional response IMHO.

Fire at a cop and you’ll be able to use your dick as a pencil.

That poor girl... maybe we should let her respond to situations with people who are armed and let her try to "deescalate it"

Does that go both ways or is that just one sided?

Nonetheless the guy was dumb for pulling out and shooting at cops but he already had his mind made up that he wasn't going to make it home that night. 99 rounds is ridiculous. But maybe some guys just had a fuel triggered moment and let it rip.

The brother who spoke tripped me out. Im sure he didn't expect his brother to be able to "go home" what not and everyone else yelling murderer...one thing to shoot an unarmed man, which has happened too many times, to shooting a guy who pulls a gun out and pops two off at cops.

why was the only response " we are going to shoot you"...

The 99 shots fired looks bad...

Until you realize that 10 cops fired those 99 shots.

And once you fire at cops, all bets are off. You’re fricked. So dont shoot at cops. Pretty simple.

Sounds like the cops need to hit the range, but no complaints otherwise.

Exactly.

I'd pay for her flight and lodging along with food, to send her to the most violent city in the U.S. just so she can go on a ride-along with the cops. She obviously has a more accurate understanding of how to deescalate a situation between a armed robber and police officers.

She might be the messiah we've all been waiting for.

Susana Rojas, a spokeswoman for Delgado-Duarte’s family, said, “We don’t know what happened that night. … But that wasn’t who they knew. He was good son.”

Rojas described Delgado-Duarte as family-oriented man who was saving up to buy his father a car so the older man wouldn’t have to walk so much after having a toe amputated.

Heart warming story.

If 99 seems excessive, just consider that the officers had no way of knowing whether they were even hitting him considering he was hiding in a trunk.

It happened in Young Guns. They shot that old guy up in the outhouse, thought he was dead, and then he killed Dick.
