I have to point out that since 1998 or so when I started driving until now, when gas prices fluctuated they were all in lock-step.

right now they are so erratic and 30-40 cent differences I don't ever recall seeing less than 1-2 miles down the road for instance.

Gasoline is the only product that 1) displays its prices so prominently for everyone to see and 2) changes so frequently

which leads to 3) people constantly and irrationally bitching and moaning about it

There's several gas stations in the area at $3.99.

All the incessant bitching about gas prices over the last few weeks, but no one is saying anything about it dropping nearly 35 cents in a few days

I've experienced similar anomalies lately.

And, even the "cheap" spots in Georgia (I've driven a couple times across the state and a couple more from Greenville, SC to Atlanta and back lately), are $4.29+. I've noticed a few random $4.15-19s.

I know the gas taxes in Ga suck, but I got it for $3.78 in greenville at a Shell on the same trip.

If you follow the commodities market for crude and fuel its not surprising. Diesel prices have been very volatile last couple weeks. Tomorrow has diesel up 39 cents in the current market. Last week diesel came up 50 cents on Wednesday and fell 98 cents on Thursday. This is all market price. If a station buys a load of fuel one day and his neighbor buys the next day you can see how they would be forced to have different prices. There isnt much profit per gallon despite what many think.

Never seen volatility in the fuel market business like i have in past 2 weeks. Its unbelievable.

Posted in another thread I filled up for $3.89 at a Chevron off 90 yesterday after filling up for $4.19 or $4.29 just last Friday.

It is all very confusing
We here will all agree that you would seem to be easily and perpetually confused.

Orientation would be one of the most obvious issues for you.

So your news is not news.

is this the place that is consistently 20-30c higher than everyone?

Yeah. But they also do a really good job on keeping the vagrants away. So for some people who would prefer to not be hassled while filling up, they'll pay the extra for the safety.

It was $3.98 at my regular place today, but I paid $2.98. I've had one of their savings cards for years. It is done by your phone number. My whole family uses that phone number when they shop there and I get points, but I've never really used them. It saves me $1.00/gallon when I use them. I've used it the past two fill ups. 1,000 points a pop, and I have a couple more thousand points to use.

It was odd in BR even a few weeks ago when it was rising, got diesel at B-Quick on Perkins and they were like 4.49 and all the other stations in the area were at 4.68 or higher.

Went to Costco gas today at 8:00am. Drove right up, no line. Still hard to believe.
