Always thought he was a little overrated. Important figure in music, to be sure, but overrated.

The scary part is that in 2056 Snoop Dogg will win

Seems justified for the greatest songwriter of all time. Songs like Visions of Johanna and It's Alright Ma are pure poetry.

Hank Sr., Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson might have something to say about that.

yeah, that's valid...from the same people who gave the Peace Prize to Al Gore and Barak Obama
ETA: If you want to know how barren pop culture is, Bob Dylan won the Nobel prize for literature and this 'amazing' painting sold for over $100,000,000

Great songwriters indeed, but nowhere near the body of work as a songwriter as Dylan IMO.

I thought these things were for current works. This seems more like a lifetime achievement award.
Whatever. Who gives a frick?

Exactly. I think some people are turned off by his sound and style, but lyrically the guy was writing stuff that was incredible and he was spitting it out time and time again. I've seen interviews that even he says he doesn't know where it came from and he can't do it now like he could then. I'm not the biggest Dylan fan in the fact that I don't just listen to him constantly, but I personally cannot think of another artist that comes close to him, and for that, I hold him in a very high regard.
I don't see how one can argue that (now whether it's relevant to a Noble Prize in 2016....). But, this is the same site where I saw people argue that Disturbed puts out a better version of a song than Simon and Garfunkel

Great.
What book should I buy to read his literature?

Don't care for Dylan and don't care for Christian music.
But those couple of albums he put out when he was born again is some good listening.

Yes. They would all say that Bob Dylan is the greatest lyricist of 20th-century.

Meh... one of the most overrated of all time imo
