I wonder how much of the Freeman hype slowing is due to guys trying out other brands these days, I'm seeing more and more Invincible cats, a few FrontRunners here and there, and seems like overnight I started seeing a ton of aluminum cats like RazorCat and Encore.

My dad just bought a used 34 Cape Horn last month and I feel like he got a decent deal, I listed his bay boat for sale, and while we've had a ton of interested and guys come look and commit to buy over the last 2 weeks, practically all back out due to interest rates being so high.

Holy shite, people buy THAT for nearly $200k???

Honestly the market deserves to get keel hauled. Recreational boat prices have no basis in reality. That boat should sell for about $65k IMO.

That's exactly what oi was thinking. Thats a 65K boat in my world.

Capes are sleeper boats, battle wagons that will be around for years and years.
I’m sure you he new cats entering market have taken some Freeman’s and that’s why they have increased their line up.

Cape Horns are basically indestructable. I know of a 31 that hit a rock jetty at a high rate of speed causing one fatality. There were gelcoat scratches only. The fiberglass wasn't even slightly damaged. I know the guy that bought it.

That's a good sled. I like those.

Not a fan of metal boats, especially when they cost as much as semi-custom glass boats of similar size and rigging. A big arse metal boat is a status symbol down here though and the fact that they sell is proof that no matter how rich a coonass gets, he still thinks he needs a metal boat

Not slowing a bit. 36 month wait list and the non-refundable deposit is now 20% of purchase price. I can't justify +$500K for a 29' boat.

They both exist to provide shade. How it is provided is of no concern to me.

I think being on a boat is cool, but I have never understood the willingness of people to pay such high prices for those things.

Worst part is that you then also get to be the one fueling it up, driving it mostly sober, worrying about maneuvering and the prop, cleaning it, maintaining it, winterizing it, etc. Everyone else gets to just show up and enjoy it. Much easier in fresh water, but still.

It was said earlier but better to be friends with someone with a boat.

My dad did it for me,and I will pass it along to my kids. My 11 yo gets to fish for Snapper, troll for wahoo and mahi most every weekend that the weather cooperates , not once a year on vacay. We fish and or boat from March thru October.

No I didn’t finance it but it was something I worked toward for 4-5 years. Had a smaller bay boat before.

Currently saving up for a full refit of my old sled. I plan for my now 27 year old boat to carry me and my boys out killing fish for hopefully 20 more years. New boats have their charms but there are redeeming qualities to old wood core rolled gunnel boats, primarily being relatively cheap and easy to repair and even completely re-arrange the layout if you choose to.

I can't be without a boat. My dad has owned at least one every day from before I was born till now. I have owned one since before my oldest was born, and God willing will own one until I can't do it anymore.

Nope. Could never do it. I must have my own that I can hook up to and haul to wherever I want to go whenever I want to go.

I know a guy that flipped 42 Freemans for a few years. He would take delivery of one, and order the next one. When the other was ready for delivery, he would sell the one he had. He would make $150K-$200K a pop. I think he did 3 that way. He has since went to a 34' Costa, and a 26' Costa.

His sons will run one boat or the other. He's a passenger. Think about the time he spends with his kids doing something the most of the rest of the country can only dream about. Put a price on that.

Similar to the wakeboat, that boat SHOULD be about $65k, which is still a lot of money but would make sense in todays economy.

Mastercraft is top quality for a wake boat which is why it’s expensive. They use quality components for everything and have a ton of options. They’re designed for competition skiing and wakeboarding but have way too much useless stuff added on for the average family pulling kids on tubes and skis. So it’s a status symbol. You can get a cheaper wake boat brand like Moomba that will do all you need for under half the price of a Mastercraft. Still not cheap but not 2-300k. I’ve seen them for 90-120k

It's easy for me to talk shite from the position of having a 20+ year old boat that is obviously paid for and still usable.

My fishing boat is a 1996 Nitro with the original 2 stroke Mercury with who knows how many hours. Never had the engine worked on. Perfect compression. All I do each winter is change foot oil and drain gas and use non ethanol of course. It fires up soon as I hit the key. The electronics on the boat and GPS trolling motor are worth more than the boat itself

Why would we want that? The low interest rates sent everything into orbit in the first place.

I'm trying to sell a house right now, and it sucks, but it should suck IMO. Not that I'm any kind of financial wizz but it seems like enduring some pain right now to right the ship is worth it?

In what world do we want the average 20' cheapo depot beer can bay boat to cost $50k+? The margins these companies were making post-covid were INSANE. See earlier post about that guys bonus. I know a lot of people in the boat industry in all corners of it. Everyone agrees the pricing is totally out of control and people being able to borrow the money for free is what sent it there. Suppliers are going to sell everything for the most money they can get for it and free money loans are what sends it parabolic.

I might be in the minority here, but I think interest rates are pretty much where they should be right now.

THT has a 2025 28 for $498,000
Buddy told this to me after taking delivery of his 2018 37; Houston pilot bought a 37 and sold right after delivery for $$!$ to an Asian guy one night in a bar. Pilot gets a call from Billy Freeman the next day telling him not to bother buying another new or used freeman since he was being black balled. The freeman fraternity is close and very tight.
