Blue Bikes - This is why we can't have nice things

I figured they would just flat be stolen.
A buck? So I can leave it outside and forget about it, or ride it back to a rack and save a buck? Hmm... no surprise.
This also tells me that they are not tracking when people are returning them, or if they are just flat stealing them. They have no inventory control.
And for all of those "muh Dallas is better than NOLA" people...

Blue Bikes stands are everywhere but there are even more Blue Bikes that are left chained to signs or left outside businesses and homes. While some bike share companies require riders to return bikes to the stands, Blue Bikes does not.

Dallas is facing a similar problem with a different ride share company. The issue got so bad city officials are developing policies and permits to keep track of the bikes, which have been found in piles and in waterways across the city.

People who ride bikes are the worst.

I know in Europe you had to go to the website (app) to rent a bike and enter my card information. If I didn't return it I was charged a fee, not sure what I would be charged if I didn't return it period. Think they gave 24 hours

Cant wait until we get the motorized razors. I will be riding those for sure.

Here, you use an app and your card info is already entered into your account. But apparently if it's not returned, you are charged a buck.

I’m currently in Dallas and using a bike share (Lime) to get around to destinations that are less than a mile away.
It is awesome and I highly recommend
I’m sorry you’re too fat to ride a bike

We have LimeBike and one other one in St Louis. When they first hit, people were stealing, vandalizing, and destroying the bikes. That seems to have calmed down pretty quick.
I like the concept and I see people riding them regularly.
From what I read, LimeBike anticipated the shitty behavior regarding the bikes and built it into their cost projections for the city.
It's like $1 every 30 minutes, so it's pretty reasonable if you need to use it. I like the concept.

I love the idea. Have you been returning your bike?
Posted on 5/29/18 at 7:08 pm to LSUFanHouston
With LimeBike there are no designated places to return the bikes (from what I understand).

You can leave it anywhere. Since I’m part of a large event w 10k visitors, the bikes are generally left on sidewalks out of the way by the hotels. There are also 100 bikes left by the convention center each day.
You open the app, scan QR code, the wheel bolt retracts and off you go. The bikes also have cell phone holders so you can use WAZE while riding

New Orleans should get in on it but the roads and neighborhoods are too dangerous

Dallas is facing a similar problem
There are a few different ones in Dallas and they are all over the place and impeded sidewalk traffic by being left bunches up on corners or across the damn sidewalk.

They have limebike and another bike share...same idea though here.
The bikes are everywhere. House next to me is owned by a guy that only uses it as airbnb house. There are normally 2-3 limebikes parked in the yard for visitors to use when they rent the house.

Couldn't they have found better spots for those bike stations? Most of them are in the street taking up parking spots. That seems like a safety issue. There's even one in front of someone's home at the new Lafitte housing development along Orleans. I'm surprised that none of the esteemed drivers here have crashed into one of the stations yet.

Sounds like New Orleans and Dallas are trash. Birmingham has had bike sharing stations like this for 4 or 5 years now and its rare to hear of somebody abusing the system or mistreating the bikes.
