The company said the women had been spoken to several times by the train manager after complaints from other customers that they were laughing and talking too loudly.
But one passenger who witnessed the incident later claimed that it was clearly racially motivated
quote:
At one point, a fellow passenger told the ladies - including an 83-year-old grandmother - 'this isn’t a bar', while a manager said they needed to quiet down.
So they admitted to being loud and rambunctious (or at least some of the group)
quote:
Johnson said no one was 'intoxicated' but that a few of the ladies were 'rambunctious' at times, which most passengers did not seem to mind as they chatted with the women and snapped photos.
After the manager spoke to the women a second time, some of them became silent said Johnson, and were confused as to why they were being singled out.
The manager then said to them that 'this isn’t going to work' and had them get off in front of all the other passengers at the next stop.

My wife and I have been guests on the Napa Wine Train a number of times going back to it's inception. Riding that train is a classy way to spend an afternoon or evening. The staff are great and meals are well presented in elegant surroundings. I can see where loud and boisterus behavior would be frowned upon. I know I wouldn't like it. To be fair, the train is divided into two sections, the dining cars where meals are served and the lounge cars where wine tastings take place. Both are settings where people are expected to conduct themselves in a quiet and mature manner. From what I can tell the objectionable behavior took place in the lounge cars.

In other articles passengers near them said that the women weren't any louder than several other groups. Plus the train company initially said that the women were both verbally and physically abusive which turned out to not be true. It was obviously racially motivated.

Loud is relative. In Europe white Americans are loud. And maybe it's cultural not racial. I don't really notice when anyone is loud. No matter the race.

Who knew it wasn't true? Why is the company testimony disregarded as not true while the passengers who were asked to get off the train true?
Where did they decide it wasn't true?
Either way, it doesn't matter because its not $11 million dollars worth of damage. I would love to be discriminated against if thats the result of it. Please, by all means discriminate against me.
Do you honestly think it was truly because they were black?
My thinking is this attorney approached them, and knew it would stir people up (since everything race seems to stir people), and they'd eventually get a good chunk of money from the attention, and of course so would he (because he doesnt work for free).
I would be surprised if these women actively pursued this suit out. This attorney likely lies in wait for shite like this.

No its not at all.
Loudness is actually defined as the intensity in the sound wave.
Loudness is actually a physically measurable quantity.
Its not a perspective, and it sure as hell does not depend on nationality.

You dont notice if someone is screaming vs. someone who is whispering? Come on man.

The wine company deleted the tweet or whatever it was where they said the woman were verbally and physically abusive and no longer claim it's true.
Yes I honestly believe it's because they're black. People with stereotypical prejudices, like many that replied to this thread, likely kept a close eye on them. Closer than on whites.

Don't be dense. Loudness is relative in that what you consider to be loud may not be what I consider to be loud.

This has been all over the news here. I believe a few of these women are attorneys....I know it's hard to fathom for some of you that black people can be well educated as well. I don't know what happened on the train but if you put me off at some random station in the North bay I would be pissed too. The public transit is atrocious there and cabs aren't readily available. This was not a group of oaktown ghetto streetwalkers, this was 11 professional women from a book club...how many of you jackasses making dindu references have read a work of literature in the last 30 days?

If they were so professional....how do they not understand expected social behavior in certain settings?

Tough titty. Had these "professionals" managed to behave themselves, that train would have delivered them right back to the station at which they boarded.

It's a train traveling through wine country....the purpose is to get drunk and not have to drive a car. Anytime alcohol is involved I assume behavior will vary based on the inhibitions of those who consume. It's not like Napa is high class.

I have not ever heard of cheddars. But when I am in Napa i don't go to restaurants either....
