Got to think most sober people would stop to at least check the damage to their vehicle or to check on the animal they thought they hit to see if it was a pet.

Some of us were having this conversation before the driver was ID'ed, so yea I'd say so.

Define "okay". It's legal to strike a pedestrian if they are crossing the street while not in a crosswalk, at night, with limited visibility.

That’s not necesssrily true. If you hit a guy on purpose it’s s crime.
You can’t just run people down that aren’t in s as crosswalk if you see them

It is definitely not legal to leave afterwards though.

I didn’t think do.

If there were other witnesses there to call 911, and render help to the victim, what "harm" was done by the driver leaving?

The state’s interest isn’t being served. If the driver was impaired he could hit someone else. It was his obligation to stay under the law.

. Not to mention they are probably going to argue that he wasn't aware that it was a person that he hit, and he didn't go to the police until he saw the report the following day.

They can argue anything, let’s hope the truth comes out and justice is done. And I have no idea exactly what the truth is.

if this were a kid from inner city New Orleans or Baton Rouge the OT would be eating this up and demanding death sentence.

I guess it's a good thing I'm neither judge nor jury and just some random person speculating on a message board. You know it, I know it, and everyone reading this knows that the most likely scenario was he didn't stop because he was drunk

Let’s not victim blame here. The a-hole who hit this man and left the scene is the issue here

Actually if this dude doesn't cross the street with a vehicle on the way this never happens.

Facts

That’s what you speculate, sure, but it’s not proof that he was drunk and fled the scene because he thought he hit a person

The driver is black isn’t he? So doesn’t that prove the OT is in fact not racist?

So we aren't allowed to speculate on a message board? Again, you know that there is a 99.9% chance he didn't stop because he was drunk or otherwise impaired. Feel free to keep being obtuse I guess

Yes, I see that now. His picture is everywhere. A quick google this morning and that picture is what came up

But it didn’t change my opinion at all when I thought he was black. The fact is crossing the road not in a crosswalk is illegal and makes this far more convoluted than some want to make it

Well no shite, that’s why I included the comment about it being dark with limited visibility. Those are parts of the argument that will point towards it not being intentional.
