2(12) isn't on the order of P it's M

I can't find it but I had a picture of 2 different calculators giving 2 different answers.

intredasting.
I'm bad at math so this doesn't surprise me.

no.. i just did PEMDAS but forgot it has to read left ---> right, you can't just throw in any order.

The issue with the calculator is that "/" isn't ambigous like the division sign is. If there was a "/" instead of a division sign, there would be no question the answer is 288.

Well that's just cute.

both P and M come before D, thus it really doesnt matter, either way the doctor is his mother.

WELL, then exactly how the fricking equation is written both 2 and 288 are correct answers worth 100% credit

prove it

For those who say the answer is 2, what is the answer to this one:
5-2+3
5-2+3

These things are so stupid. Replace the divided by symbol with fractional notation and most of this confusion goes away. It's a test in PEMDAS, and nothing else.

Technically your work was incorrect, so not 100% by my book

Multiply and divide are on the same plane... you do whichever comes first starting from left to right. Same with addition and subtraction.

Wolfram Alpha and correct application of order of operations say it is 288, so get over it everyone.
Posted on 4/15/15 at 1:56 pm to KosmoCramer
48/2*12
48*(0.5)*(12)
288
48*(0.5)*(12)
288

both are correct because the OTHER coin is a nickle. I get it now.
