and let me say - I love Chattanooga, but the traffic kills it for me

I get it. Before I moved, there was already a lot of people moving there from out of state and traffic was getting worse.

But I ended up moving to a town with about 1/3 of the population of Chattanooga and traffic here seems even worse than what I left behind.

It seems like it's going to be an issue just about anywhere that's a decent place to live.

Oldest brother moved around Fort Oglethorpe a few months ago. That 59/26 funnel was a goddamn nightmare.

I grew up in Fort Oglethorpe and don't have a clue what this means. Hwy 27 runs through the older part of town. But I don't know of a 59/26.

Birmingham is the best overall if you can live in MB or a better part of Vestavia, IMO. It has the most upside, but perhaps the most downside. Bham is an aesthetically nice area too.

Chattanooga is similar to me. Lower quality city-amenities, but it's in a considerably better state.

Huntsville is the most boring but likely the most consistent. I'm not a big Huntsville fan, but I have no doubt it provides a consistently decent quality of life.

I always thought it’d be cool to live in one of those neighborhoods on Lookout Mountain

If you like the outdoors then Huntsville and Chattanooga. If you like fine dining, more things to do for the downtown life, B’ham.

I lived in huntsville for a year and loved it and then got moved to Birmingham for work. It took a while to learn Birmingham but not that I know it, I love it. Birmingham is 2hrs from Atlanta, 3 hrs from Nashville, 1.5hrs from Chattanooga and Huntsville, 4 hrs from the beach, 5 hours from Baton Rouge and 4hrs from Nola.

Chattanooga, easily. The others are equivalent to arguing Shreveport is better than Dallas.

Best outdoors
No income tax
Close to Atlanta and Nashville
Close to the Smokys

Put simply, people actually visit Chattanooga on their time off. No one visits Huntsville or Birmingham.

The HSV metro area has grown tremendously and next no no consideration has been given to vehicle traffic infrastructure. Drive east on 72 in the morning from Athens or Madison.

If you live in the suburbs yeah traffic sucks. But Madison also sucks.

Real answer - they are all great cities, would be hard to pick.

You can find good and bad spots in all 3 of these, or frankly any other city.

I would go find a job, then find a neighborhood, etc that suits you and go from there.

Space Camp, Huntsville is nice. I would never move there, but out of the other two it would be much more preferable than B'ham.

Birmingham you are close to everything. New Orleans 5-ATL-2 hours-beach 4 hours-Nashville 3 hours- Birmingham is growing too. Chattanooga is sweet though. Huntsville is happening new good city

No doubt that bham is dominate location wise. Especially for the beach.

North Carolina is the pinnacle of living in the Southeast.

One of the nicer suburbs of Birmingham. Can get to the best things in Chattanooga and Huntsville in a couple hours. As well as Atlanta and Nashville. Beach and LA is 4 hours away. Central location as well as a large enough city to have culturally diverse areas. Food is underrated. At Saws BBQ by bass pro and Buccees having a Ghost in the Machine, I’m biased.

Went through Chattanooga a few weeks ago at 4am on a weekend and we were at a stand still for 30min. No accident, purely construction generated traffic.

Huntsville is probably the one I'd choose out of those 3.
