Damned shame that my wife and I would be MUCH better off financially if we got a civil divorce and she became a no income single mother. Crying fricking shame.
We have “joked” about. But that joke looks more serious each year.
I’ve seen several people talk about divorce trending down among younger people. Yeah, that’s because so few of them are actually getting married.

$520M in new state spending and the GOP lines up behind it.
We live in bizzaro world.

This leads the State of Louisiana only down 1 road, the road to huge debt. The pure numbers say this won't work, can't have heavy taxes cuts and breaks and increase government spending.
Also what about the multi-billion dollar road and bridge fund deficit?

A ton of the R’s in the LA legislature were D’s back in the 90’s. They are the worst combination of politician., socially conservative and fiscally progressive

This bill would help me as I have a young son and would benefit from it when he's old enough for school.
It's been said already but existing private schools are almost certainly going to increase tuition as a result of this - parents with kids in private school will ultimately be coming out of pocket about the same amount when it's all said and done. It ends up being just a means of funneling public money into private schools, which I suppose is an indirect benefit for those parents.

Not if you have a household income of more than $150k
I don’t know anyone making less than 150k that sends kids to private school so it would only help new families

Years ago, the cost of public school, per student, you could have sent them to private school for less money. Putting good money into a bad program, the Democratic Way!

how much per year is spent on an individual student in public school? heck this could save taxpayer money.
You give me 10k per year you wont see many folks that care in public school. I assume the money will be diverted from the federal money too, so I would not think it would be as simple as La giving me a check.

We started doing this in Arkansas last year. It's called the LEARNS act. They are slowly rolling in new student eligibility over the first several years. So far the private school my kids go to hasn't doubled the tuition yet. My kids are juniors currently so we'll only end up benefitting for 1 year..but it's a start.
The idea is the money set aside for your child in the public district you're in(here it's ~$7,000 per student) is reallocated to the private school and away from the public school.
BTW - the money goes to the private schools, not you personally.

That's the point. It funnels more money to private schools. Every private school would have new football stadiums within a few years of this passing.
Have you seen the facilities at public schools? As a parent of a kid that goes to a small private school without super fancy facilities, it's insane to me how much public money goes to football/baseball/softball/soccer facilities.

Make it so I can deduct it from my state income and property tax and I’m in.

Or you could kick out the shite students out of regular public school into an alternative route and make public school viable again.
You know the NAACP and their ilk won’t like that for obvious reasons.
