Let me preface this by saying I haven't taken a science class other than basic biology and plant science since high school (and it was a southern baptist high school at that ) so I am not anything close to a scientific expert in the area BUT let's just say all the carbon dating models evolutionists use as evidence of earth being millions of year old are correct, and stars are so far away that they have to be millions of years old, etc. I would choose to believe God made the rocks in the earth and the stars in the universe to appear that way.

I understand that statement looks incredibly foolish and ignorant in the scientic community bc again, none of that is explainable by science

I like that Nye does not claim to be able to prove incorrect that which he can't disprove. He says he disagrees and finds it unreasonable, but he doesn't outright say it isn't true. He also wasn't afraid to admit that he didn't know the answer to a question earlier.

The whole point of science is that we don't know some things. Gravity existed despite the fact that we couldn't explain why objects always fall down to earth.

Saying a concept is not something our side understands yet is something that is perfectly fine, but to a creationist that means you're basically admitting defeat.

Does anyone know how much longer this debate is supposed to last? I want to turn it off because I have other things to do, but not if it's about to be over anyway.

You cant carbon date anything that is millions of years old because carbon has a half life of only 5,700 years. The age of the earth is established by multiple different dating methods.

And if God did what you say he did then God is deceitful at best and an outright liar at worst.

Why should they?

If you will go back to my original post you will see I understand why they don't which is why I haven't been in this thread or anywhere else browbeating anyone for believing in evolution

I'd rather see a debate between darwinists and intelligent designers. The age of the earth debate is foolish to me. I mean, what difference does it make how old the earth/universe is?

Maybe God made the Earth 4.5 billion years ago (6 days his time)

Maybe he allowed for evolution so that we would have something to study.

I'm not saying I believe those things I'm only pointing out that other explanations exist that allow for someone to believe in evolution and God.

I'm not sure if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing. For the record, I agree with you. I really did mean that I like that Nye isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't know something. I wasn't being sarcastic.

I don't have a problem with anyone believing this. Creation itself doesn't bother me as an idea..I just get annoyed when the young earth crowd tries to co-opt science and then distort the shite out of itto try and support their fallacies.

Someone said that it was suppose to be 3 hours so about 40 more minutes?

I'm not here to get into a theological debate on God's actions as I am woefully unprepared to do so

The problem is that many christians believe evolution destroys the whole original sin/fall of man concept (it kinda does) and thus they cant believe in it. This means that literally nothing can ever convince them otherwise.

Evolution and God are not mutually exclusive, but evolution and a literal belief in the creation account are.

The provided link says "not streaming". Everything else I can find are editorials by various people declaring whomever the sided with going into the debate the winner.

Moonshiners just started on discovery. I find this scripted reality show highly entertaining so I'm going to give my mind a rest. I'll channel my inner St Peter and Stephen Hawking later.

Absolutely agree

To me it makes little difference but some Christians run into issues bc they claim the whole Bible to be the word of God and thus fact so if you decide that the story of Creation isn't absolutely accurate then you are cherry picking what to believe/not believe in the Bible. Then you get into a literal interpretation vs Symbolic debate

Basically it would open a huge can of worms with a lot of Christians

Nye's answer right now is great.

I once heard a really intelligent point, which I will paraphrase and probably screw up: "If we choose to believe in science alone, does that mean that anytime the Bible contradicts science, we should throw away all of the Bible as false? Or if we choose to believe in the Bible alone, does that mean that we should throw away all of science if science disagrees with something in the Bible? The third option is that maybe we should take the Bible and science as two separate entities that seek to answer different questions."

I've had this thought a lot. Why would God, being an entity with the power over creation itself, be bound by the limits of time as we see it? Why, if you accept the possibility of God, would it be hard to imagine that an instant of creation for God may have actually been 14 billion years to this universe in the way we(humans) perceive time?

Ridiculous argument, still doesn't change the fact that the Universe was created by a higher being, the alternative is really not even scientifically defensible.
