They are basically trying to stop it from spreading. There is no putting it out.

You don't know what's in that oil.

I mean it will burn off, not ike there is a flowing well supplying it. I would imagine it is starting to go out unless it spread to other tanks or warehouses.

It is. There are floating pods of burning oil. They are just trying to contain those.

Once you get so large you have to self insure because there isnt a policy to cover it

I have no idea how large they actually are but from the overhead view they could probably cover most of their exposures via traditional insurance and the high exposure low frequency events (like this) could likely be covered via the reinsurance market as long as they had a decent safety record.

Just looking at that picture of the house that is going to cost a pretty penny to remediate. Add to the simple cleaning with proper control and removal of the cleaning products and water and the bills could be huge for a single house. The environmental impact from this is going to be huge even if it is for a relatively small area but with the river less than a mile away and swamp just on the other side of 51 it won't be localized.

I am curious as to what they store there that is that explosive to rain oil? Or was it just a huge fire?

Most lubricants and industrial oils are not explosive.

I am not going to pretend I know the petroleum industry. I am just stating what a very reputable hands on friend of mine is telling me.

All good, I am just curious.

Hopefully no one was injured.

Unless??? Every structure on that property either had packaging lines, finished product, or packaging materials, all highly flammable. By morning I'd imagine every building will be leveled. Here's the facility before... Notice where I marked it started, from what I was told.

Here's what it looks like as of 2 hours ago... (Notice the admin building in the bottom right of each pic)

See my post on the 2nd page here. I list out many of the products made there.

Several fuels and highly flammable chemicals like starter fluid(ether) and brake cleaner. Even premixed 2 stroke fuels.

Plus all the other oils and chemicals.

Fox8 news reported earlier that they have had significant EPA violations every quarter for the past 12 STRAIGHT QUARTERS. While EPA violations don't cause what happens today, it shows the lackadaisical attitude of management and ownership there.

Everyone hates government regulations, but imagine how lackadaisical the like be if there was no EPA

Lawsuits coming from this will be legit. There are people from miles around with oil all over their houses, farms, livestock, vehicles, ponds, etc.

This isn’t one of those the loud noise scared me and I’m scared to go home type deals.

I’ve heard a few fire trucks were burned up and lost.
