I will tell them that exactly! I might stalk you out in a couple of weeks for advice, because we both have firm job offers in multiple locations (although I don't particularly want to live in Fairbanks). Anchorage for work while living in the Mat-Su valley? Pretty much our options for her unless we transplant to a fly-in area.

If a city is in any of the major leagues--NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL or even MLS-- you tend to hear about it.
That's why it's so important for the growing areas to get a pro sports team, to validate that they are indeed a "big league city".
And thus I wouldn't include places like Indianapolis (2 teams), San Antonio (1 team), Milwaukee (2 teams), Jacksonville (1 team), St. Louis (2 teams) or Columbus OH (2 teams) in the discussion.
I will say that it is CRAZY how big Austin is now. Has really grown in last 30 years. Already on pro sports radar; owner of Columbus's soccer team was talking about moving the team there.
That's why it's so important for the growing areas to get a pro sports team, to validate that they are indeed a "big league city".

Palmer would be my suggestion. Eagle river is closer but Palmer is a cool place and housing is more affordable

Thanks! I'll let her know, and check out the housing market. Where would you suggest for cheaper land? I'm a builder by trade, so not afraid of development. I'm considering pulling the 5th wheel and building a barn skeleton to place it under and live while we build.

Somewhere in the Mat su. Land is probably cheaper in Wasilla but Palmer is a better town. Might look at the Palmer Fishhook, Trunk Rd or Bogard Road areas.
I lived off of Palmer Fishhook for a while and liked it, it doesn't get the winds that much of the valley gets. Plus it's neat Hatchers Pass which is an amazing area.

Houston will most likely pass Chicago in the next decade and become the 3rd largest city.
Houston actually has a pretty good way to catch Chicago, and that's assuming the current growth rate of Houston sustains itself and the current shrink rate of Chicago sustains itself.
I'd be surprised if Houston metro surpassed Chicago metro by 2030.

Nashville is the capital of Tennessee. Louisville should've been the capital of Kentucky.
The state fricked up majorly in not making Louisville the capital. Nonetheless, it's still a metro area of 1.4 million and have been raped and plundered for tax revenue for 200+ years. They obviously had a good reason for that "hissy fit".
Lexington is no more than a Knoxville of the world. Louisville, given the right support, should have been a St. Louis, Nashville, or even Atlanta.

I know taxes in KY are pretty bad, but is Louisville that much worse?
Isn’t there a city income tax there or something like that?
