Holy shite..

In taxes, maybe. In inflation, reduced services they absolutely will.

Everyone will pay more.

Eventually the taxpayer WILL pay more in taxes as the deficit is out of control. The more immediate impact is inflation .

Everyone pays more. Nothing is free.

The problem with college cost will be made much worse by forgiving student loans. Subsidies lead to higher prices. Its reinforcing poor behavior, and yes, it adds to both consumer and taxpayer burden

Seeing some "conservatives" talk about fiscal responsibility now - while simultaneously demanding that Biden continue to fund the Ukrainian grift.

For the record, I am anti-loan forgiveness AND anti-Ukraine/MIC grifting.

At least the Democrats are using deficit spending to buy votes. Republican deficit spending is used to fund Lockheed Martin and Zelensky's Slush Fund.

My position on student loan debt is that if something MUST be done - plunder university endowments.

We've been pushing the can down the road for forever. When this comes to a head is anyone's guess. You've got no fricking clue, that's for certain

This is forgiveness for money already paid. It has nothing to do with future money

So that's $20k forgiveness for joint filers, assuming both have outstanding loans? I don't get it.

There's apparently a way for you to request a refund for any loan payments made during the COVID freeze.

I was an idiot and paid my remaining loans off during that time, so I'm looking into getting it refunded now so I can turn around and have that balance forgiven.

Bingo. Put the beneficiary on the hook.

You don't change poor behavior by subsidizing it. That's childishly stupid.

My dad was a huge Trump supporter and extremely conservative.....but back in 2019 before he died.....he told me to hold off on my student loan payments for a while because he was convinced the democrats would find a way to write it off. He wasn't wrong.

Not that I agree with the cancelling the debt, but glad I didn't give the government another fricking penny towards my loan when we are all going to have to pay more taxes/interest down the road anyways....regardless if you had a loan or not.

Can't say I blame you.

There's too few controls which allows schools to keep raising cost, while students spend student loan money without many limits. Its different in the UK.

ALso they can't be forgiven, like UK or Canada which has forgiveness. UK puts limits on what schools can charge, and loans will pay.

We've done the same with housing and medical care too. Too many subsidies led to spiraling cost.

Anyone that gets this loan debt forgiveness should get a massive credit ding.

I would personally disallow them from any future loans at my institution as they obviously don't know what a loan agreement is and can't be trusted to make good on the agreement.

And this is TERRIBLE precedent being set by the government and anyone celebrating it is just a partisan hack or terrible with money and got a worthless degree.
