I’ve got an old school white Frigidaire fridge with the freezer on top. Bastard was bought scratch and dent in 2000. Has been moved 6 times, flooded 6, (water up halfway in the fridge) and still going strong. After Ida it sat I. Flood water for over a week. Power was out another few days. Fired right back up and still keeps my beer cold. Wish they made them like that

Crazy how this also applies to vehicles. The 2008 recession was brutal on the car part industry and many went bankrupt and were then bought by conglomerates.

All of our appliances are Whirlpool and aside from the washer not completing the cycle if it is too heavy on one side we haven't had an issue w/them. We've had the washer 3 years and the dryer 6. Dishwasher is 6 years old.

I know exactly what fridge that is. Very common to have
-Led control failure (you can get the control led for $30 on eBay, my price is $105 at the distributor)
-Bin control board failure (secondary control board gets wet)
- ice maker freezes over or breaks
-fan seizes.

You hit the nail on the head.

Just wait until the new ac units come out that our genius government will require on 1/1/23. Pray you don’t have to do a change out from the current models.

Gas ranges are one of the appliances that are still really good.

No doubt, and if you can find one with no electronics at all, even better (all gas). I went with a Thor 5 years ago as we wanted a 48" range without breaking the bank. It was $4500 (a comparable Wolf was $12K). It had absolutely no issues, cooked to the thermostat well, and was better insulated than anything on the market at the time. Then again, the oven thermostat, burner ignitor, and on/off switched convection fan was the only thing "electronic" on the unit.

We got a 2020 model when we built a new house and they have added led accent lights to the knobs and its gone up to $6K but no issues at all. I had to do a propane jet conversion at purchase. It was pretty simple and having it partially opened up you realize just how straight forward they really are. I will never own a wall oven with a circuit board again.

Meanwhile my grandmother’s dookie green refrigerator from 1970 is still keeping food cold like a champ.

Will be buying whirlpool or another brand when ready to replace them.

Bro they're no better. Ask any appliance tech (who has been in the business a long time) and he will tell you appliances today are built like shite compared to 20 years ago (and even moreso compared to the 80's/90's). Part of it is because of government regulations which prevent them from making appliances that work (global warming stuff) and part of it is just them using cheaper Chinese parts to cut costs.

You know that fridge your grandma had for 30 years that still worked fine when she replaced it? Yeah that's not a thing now. You get 5 years on average now.

Bought fridgadaire fridge, range and dishwasher 2 years ago and so far so good. They are noticeably more flimsy than the old whirlpool stuff we had but that old stuff was at it's end life. The fridge and range are great, no complaints. The dishwasher is pretty mediocre, doesn't dry anything and if you don't wash the dishes before putting them in, they come out dirty.

Stove/oven did have a remarkable technology improvement. I bought a smooth top stove in the 1980 period and it was a real piece of crap requiring many hours of scouring pad work weekly to keep the cooking surface clean. Swore off smooth tops for 40 years.
While building a new house in 2018, wife talked me into a new smooth top. The induction heating concept works very nicely. Cleaning is a scot towel breeze.

They’re all made with the same shite parts in China or Mexico. Brand means very little anymore
