I got a ticket going 72 in a 70 on I-49 by "Town of Washington" police a number of years ago - my fine was about that same amount.

My suggestion would be to call the number listed on the ticket - ask them what to do if you would not like this ticket on your record. In my experince their request is an easy one - and well worth it to not show up on your record.

It's not the people that drive 10 over on the interstate that are dangerous, it's people that drive 10 under. Also people that don't understand that unless you are passing someone, you should be in the right lane.

I wish they would stop ticketing speeding on the interstate in general - for all privately owned light vehicles. Commercial truck speed limits should be strictly enforced.

I'm all for in town speeding tickets on rural and local roads where there are pedestrians, bicyclists and multiple intersections.

The violation amount is only $75. The court administration fees make up the rest.

I could be wrong... but wasn't there a law passed a few years back that locals could only write a ticket on the interstate if it was 12 or more over? Maybe it was 10. Either way, it was designed to prevent places like Washington from setting up speed traps.

I think it just applied to municipalities and it was 10

It's not an Evangeline Parish problem. I would love to see a change in our interstate priorities to increase the speed of our Interstates. Of course this would cut into every small town despot sheriff/chief's revenue, but it's necessary. The whole 'speed kills' crap that creates these situations isn't true in the least. Speed kills but it's slow speed. Notice how there are laws on all the books requiring slower moving vehicles to drive in the right lane and yet that's NEVER enforced.

Those people are the ones that cause a majority of the accidents. They create gridlock in areas everywhere their slow moving arses travel. Police now are 80% revenue generation anyway. If we went back to actual policing instead of BS money making, you would see most of these situations go away that inflame the population.

Sorry the road pirates got you but...

How do you not see a cop on that stretch of 49? There’s literally nowhere for them to hide.

Keep your cruise on 83 and they won’t bother you

I once was pulled over in Evangeline Parish at 10:00 am because the word "Louisiana" wasn't fully visible on my license plate. I had license plate frame at the time that barley covered up the TOP 1/4 of the word "Louisiana".

When the cop said that was the (given) reason he stopped me I was floored and couldn't help but laugh and respond incredulously: "Could you not tell it was a Louisiana plate? It has a Goddamn pelican on it right in the middle of the FULLY visible numbers/letters!" That did not go over well.

Generally, I'm very respectful in my interactions with police. And most of the times I've been pulled over I was speeding (to some degree). But I just couldn't help it with the sheer stupidity of the stop. I forget the ticket amount, but ended up getting the city prosecutor to take care of it.

Another example, St. Martin Parish and their policing of Hwy 90 in Broussard. It's less that 2 fricking miles and they radar the frick out of that stretch.

Don’t forget Hwy 182 as well between Broussard and Cade. And don’t even get me started in the Jeanerette Marshals in Hwy 90.

Ha, I bet I know where. 49 barely clips a corner of Evangeline Parish in three places. One for about a quarter mile stretch, the other two less than that. They love to set up there.

There was a ton of traffic I had just pulled into the left lane to get around a semi and he got me right then...
I do exactly what you suggested I just sped up to get around some people.

I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket in over 8 years.

I thought everyone knew not to speed through Rapides Parish and everything south until past Opelousas on I49?

I’m sure you were really endangering people doing 10 over. Traffic cops are robbers with a badge, goons in an extortion scheme.
