I'll never understand why they couldn't save money in the good times like literally everyone else. Yes, I could go get another car tomorrow of I wanted to, but instead I'm filling up my emergency fund.

Yep that is where I'm divided. The fact that they didn't save sucks. But most if them are on that 2nd marriage because their woman slept with Jody.

Classic ant and the grasshopper analogy.

It sucks for them baws, but they have to pitch in to do their part to passive aggressively defeat ISIS aka the Obama Doctrine.

That's where they made their mistake.

I think teachers are underpaid, just where would the money come from? As it is people hate the tax levels, and private schools on average pay less than public school. (But really top tier schools offer free tuition for employee kids, which does add in a huge benefit)
I think though that the biggest folly in education is not teaching students to master a 1040, Credit scores (and how to use credit cards and debt to income), balance a checkbook and understand that you have to pay yourself first.

But those wave runners and 4 wheelers tho

Well, most people don't save money, that's the problem. It's not just oilfield workers that are guilty.

While I can relate somewhat to his message, as I have been laid off twice, the lack of education is the problem for the 'woman' in the message. Plus, she must not have had a good lawyer in the divorce to be taking half his wages, plus having him pay for health insurance, education, etc.

Think about it in these terms........If you are a woman, and you marry your husband at age 25. You give him 2.7 children and the very best years of your life. Then, at age 40, that rotten bastard decides to trade you in for a DIFFERENT 25 year old. Your hard work, your dedication, your youth, are spent now, and some new hottie is reaping the fruits of your ex's salary, while you are relegated to a 12 year old mini-van, running the pre-teens to soccer practice, while holding down two piece of shite jobs just to pay for a manicure once every other month.....

More lazy teachers than good ones. I hear first hand. My sister is a teacher and my mom is IT at a school

I love the OT because it's just as heartless as me. Got the responses I was hoping for in this thread.

I say this all of the time about the oilfield being down and people thinking you should pay more to keep them working. No one was saying pay more for houses in '07 & '08 when the real estate market crashed so I could keep my guys working. In fact, I see a few here hoping the bottom falls out of the Laffy RE market right now so they can build cheap.

Just as teachers know what they're getting into, so do oilfield workers. You have to know the risks. If you don't, and you don't plan for those risks, you'll wind up in the situation that this guys post alludes to.

Yep. Couldn't agree more. I got laid off in April. Did some different work here and there until now. Gonna have to make a change as I 'm not going back to it. May go back to school. Not getting married early gave me a chance to do what I want.

My fuel bill is exponentially larger than the average person, as my commute is nearly 400 miles, round trip. So my gas cost is WAY lower. I am glad for that, but the way some, otherwise seemingly intelligent people around here act, and speak, oilfield workers are getting their comeuppance with all these layoffs. And nothing is further from the truth. The VAST majority if oilfield workers are hard working, paycheck to paycheck, family men.
Sorry, part of it was in a comment I didn't post.
