I understand your pain, I feel for you. Glad that you working to better yourself though.

I'm largely unaffected by oil prices. I may see a slight difference at the pump, but I honestly couldn't tell you what the price of gas was the last time I filled up. I know more about the price of barrels of oil than I do a gallon of gas.

People in real estate and housing should post statuses demonizing people for taking advantage of the market post-2008.

Most of the guys I know from big blue that got laid off were in their 40s and 50s and did not have F250s and toys. Just teenagers, kids in college and a mortgage

I say this all of the time about the oilfield being down and people thinking you should pay more to keep them working. No one was saying pay more for houses in '07 & '08 when the real estate market crashed so I could keep my guys working. In fact, I see a few here hoping the bottom falls out of the Laffy RE market right now so they can build cheap.

you beat me to it

I have had a few different jobs that I passed on. I'm not gonna move somewhere I don't want to be like I have the first 10 years of my professional life. I refuse to live in midland. Had two offers there

My kids are in the best elementary school in the state and my wife teaches at that school. The pay is decent at best, but we don't get a dime taken off of the 10k a year tuition.

You would think the school knows they don't pay their teachers enough to send their kids to school there, but they don't care. She has even told me of teachers getting fired for taking their kids out of school and sending them somewhere else because they can't afford the tuition anymore. Supposedly it makes the school look bad.

No, he did it to make a very good living with little to no education. He wasn't worried about me or the fuel in my truck. I hate it for him, but that's the oil field. Nothing new.

frick that he did it for a paycheck, in many cases much more than he could have made otherwise. frick all that.

Looking into starting a home inspection company. Would like to go back to school. But don't think that is worth it. I don't need as much stuff as I thought I would. Last few years I have not wanted as much crap that I used to buy only to barely ever use it

I will say this, the attitudes of those employed is much more appreciative of what they have. I hate the boom times because we have too many slap dicks and Cowboy types on the job.

This. He's likening his "sacrifice" to that of a soldier. "It's for you." If anyone reading this feels that way, go frick your self.

If you do this, don't be one of those slapdicks that just take the course from Bob Brooks and do inspections for agents. Those guys are useless. Do it correctly and go and get your code inspection/enforcement certs.

You don't even have to work for local cities or parishes if you have it. There are parishes that allow builders to hire their own inspectors instead of using the ones on the parish payroll. You will never be out of work and you can still do the slapdick inspections for home buyers but you will be way more educated.

Every time I think of Midland, TX, I can only think of that scene from Friday Night Lights where Boobie yells at the doctor.

Huh? It's not like the big pharma companies have stopped raping the public by charging outrageous prices for drugs we don't need that don't work all sold by bimbo hotties.
