Why go to either of these schools with those stats?

This.

With these scores you can do much better than LSU or Tech.

Did he get one of these yet?

USA Today:MIT admits admissions e-mail goof

Getting into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is no small feat — fewer than one in 10 applicants are accepted. So imagine the stir last week when thousands of prospective MIT freshmen got an e-mail that at the bottom casually noted, "you are admitted to MIT!"

LSU is consistently a top 100 program, which is cool, but there are better places to go with those credentials.

My dream school would probably be stanford, with MIT and Georgia Tech 2nd and 3rd.

Do you know what you need other than good grades to get into MIT? I don't even know where to begin. I went to LSU because of TOPS, slutty girls and a good football team to watch on Saturdays. Cuz and I are different in a few areas

Tech does however have Aero engineering which LSU doesn't offer.
And LSU has Petroleum Engineering

Does anyone know why Tulane is ranked low in engineering? Kind of surprising.

I'd take my talents to Stanford if I had those grades

Was going to say the same thing. Friend of mine's buddy that was like a super genius in high school with a 4.0 GPA and a 33-34 on the ACT went there. Got his degree in ME. Worked in the field in O&G and never made it to the office setting. Did it about 4 years and then took over his pop's money lending business.

Personally, if you are that smart, you are going to be hired straight out of college to a good gig no matter what school you attend. It all comes down to the contacts you make. If you want to stay in the Gulf Coast region and have the connection to a great state school with a respected program, I would pick LSU.

Really depends on what discipline and/or industry he's looking at getting into following graduation.

I read an article a while back posted by LSU and it said that the average LSU ME grad starts out at like 65k. I doubt it's that high at La Tech.

I believe Tulane had to gut their engineering program after Katrina. I could be completely wrong, but I know of a few people who came to LSU right after Katrina and never went back.

Probably depends on what type of engineering. I know the company I work for has plenty of engineers from both. Lately it seems we've gotten lots of female engineers from Tech.

Do no believe those stats. Those numbers are from self reported salaries from graduating seniors. We greatly exaggerated some salaries. I remember seeing 150k for an entry level job that was not removed from the average.

That's right where I started, and I did not have the greatest grades. Seems pretty accurate to me.

And if I could go back, I would work harder in high school to get the 4.0 and 34 ACT so that I could get into Stanford, Georgia Tech, or possibly MIT. Looking back after studying for ME classes, I could have easily done much better if I put effort in during high school. I was just lazy. It's a big regret. I wouldn't waste those grades on LSU or Tech. You can easily end up with the same job and salary, but it's an experience most will never get so go for it.

And it shoots up quite a bit pretty quickly.
