Trying to replace a door lock actuator on my Acura and the screws holding the lock mechanism to the door frame won’t budge. Tried using a drill and mini impact wrench and I’ve stripped all 3.

Should I take a drill bit and just break the heads? Or reverse tap? Or just take a Molotov cocktail to the car? Or sell it and buy an F-350 with truck nuts?

I don’t know if it will work in your case, but I found a life hack to get stripped screws out by placing a thick rubber band between the drill bit and the stripped screw.

It actually worked for my situation.

A company called Curbside has several devices that might help...sold at Ace, Lowes, etc.

I'm assuming they're flush so a vice grip can't grab them.

Sometimes, WD40 and a larger size bit will work, with turning very slow.

I have had good luck with these. I would use a WD40 (or better) before attacking them any further.

just drill out the heads, replace the lock, use new screws

the screws go into the lock not the vehicle so just drill the heads off

They do. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I usually try it.

OP, sometimes a little heat works to help break them loose, but these days you never know when and where plastic parts are.

Would you rather tap stripped screws or screw tapped strippers? Either way, the hole should be left empty when the job is done.

Is it possible to cut a notch in them and use a flathead screwdriver or bit to get them out? That's worked better than anything I've tried, including the removal tools and the rubber band trick.

If these are like the ones in the Honda doors, I think you need to heat them up a while with a hair dryer or heat gun to loosen up the glue and break them easier.
Good luck.

Use an angle grinder to score a line in the top of the head and then you can use a flat head bit to remove
