Keep the baby awake all day so it will be tired then do your driving at night
Horrible advice.

how the frick are ipads and tablets such a popular answer in this thread?
My kid can be screaming his head off and will immediately stop when you play baby shark.
It isn't something I do daily, but if you are in the car and your kid is melting down a few minutes of nursery rhyme videos won't hurt them.

Travel at night, plan it around their sleeping schedule.
I sure hope you and your SO have been diligent in getting the kid on a schedule. Otherwise... prayers sent.

sure... why not fry your kids brains in the name of making things easier
My kids get no electronics...except on road trips longer than 2 hrs. Their brains seem fine to me.

A 4 month old? I'm not one to judge parents, but that seems a bit excessive.

I hate that song with a fiery passion.
But goddamn it works.

Pacifier and soothing music...your goal is to have them sleep for as much of the 6 hours as possible.

Every kid is different. Everyone says travel at night. We tried that with ours at 4 months. Checked into a hotel at Midnight on our trip because he had been screaming for 2 hours straight. Guess being in the dark messed him up.
So we never tried that again and our kids always were good travelers. They face backwards so having mom sit by them helps to entertain some or throw a DVD player in there with a very colorful cartoon to fascinate them. Pacifier and naps worked best for us. We would try to drive the bulk of the trip during their peak nap times, feed them just before to fill them up, and hope for the best. There’s no magic button though so just be willing to stop more and get him out a few times to stretch.

I mean I'm not, something that works for my kid isn't sure to work on others.

4mo is better than a 2yo

ETA: OP, if someone else is riding with you then have them sit in the backseat next to the baby to keep it entertained. Otherwise, bring some good headphones

I took my 4 month old on a 18 hour trip last year. Have someone sit in the back with him and bring a couple things like this to keep him entertained:
This really is the best advice. if you can have someone sit back there to entertain them when awake, that will help.
Traveling at night may help but that's only if they actually sleep during the night.
At that age, in a car, they are either sleeping or crying. Have playtoys dangling from the handle of their infant carrier. Add in times for diaper changes and feedings.
Both of mine had this great ability when traveling with them at that age. We would stop and change their wet diaper. then, we would get back on the road, and approx 10 min later, they would produce one of the most foul, rotten, poo-filled diapers you have ever seen. And it would always be in the middle of nowhere. Good times!!

My 4 month old sleeps everytime he's in the car seat and the car is running.
We've taken several long road trips since he's been born and we have to pull over and wake him up to eat every few hours
