50k miles per year…. I’d definitely prioritize vehicles with self driving capability.

Doesn’t Cadillac offer a midsize suv with super cruise?

It tortures my soul that Toyota will not develop and release a 1 ton diesel pickup truck for the US market. That concept they did a few years ago was sooooooo awesome.

But if I was op, id get a 4 door GMC half ton diesel pickup. He'll be driving enough to stave off the typical issues and wont look like a dweeb stuffing customers and coworkers into a hatchback civic.

Driving any car 50k miles a year is going to tank its value, resale shouldn't even be on the list IMO.

I am up for a job that requires regional travel and if I had to choose now it would be an F150 with a 5.0 and blue cruise.

It fits the car allowance budget and I hate interstate driving. In 48 months it will be paid for, I will have a knock around truck and then I would probably switch to luxury car leases, whatever the current car allowance allowed for.

I've been buying used Camrys to cut down on loss of valuation.

Rav4 is probably next though.

The OT is obviously made up of the elite among us, so I wanted to get the board's opinion of the best commuter vehicle when considering the following criteria ranked by importance:

1) Smooth, Quiet Ride
2) Reliability
3) Gas mileage
4) Space
5) Resale

Several good ideas but stay away from government motors- may be try a Toyota Venza, Toyota branding but nicer ones are plush as Lexus

The BMW 750e xDrive is top of the line combination of luxury, performance, handling, technology and gas mileage.

Combination 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine & electric motor

483 HP, 516 lb-ft Torque

65 combined mpg (city/hwy)

I have had various trucks and SUV’s for work vehicles for the past 30 years and the one that was the most comfortable was a Doge Durango that I recently had. I know that will get some downvotes!

However, it checks every box that you said was important. Third row seats so it will ride 5 easily or 6 tight. Gets 32 MPG. Looks damn good and has a ton of features.

Most Toyotas will get 200,000-300,000 miles easily. An still have a fair resale value.

Subaru are very good vehicles, dependably, reliability and owner satisfaction are top of the list.

Employer should provide you a car, insurance and an allowance for fuel and maintenance.

Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4

I put about 800 miles per week on mine and love it. Level the front end and add a set of BFG K3s (I believe it’s 275/65R20). You can thank me later. 2025 Big Horn midnight edition has a nice array of technology and a 33 gallon tank. Go with the 3:55 gears. I prefer the cloth seats for comfort. So far, I’m liking the hurricane engine. I thought I’d miss the Hemi from my previous 2020, but the hurricane checks all the boxes, and is averaging about 5 extra MPG.

My wife received a 50k car allowance when she was bumped up to VP last fall so we ended up buying an Atlas cross-sport and absolutely love it. Only having 2 rows of seating was a gamechanger. The back seats have as much leg room as the front row. I drove it to the Ozarks last week and all of the AI/adaptive features made it feel as close to a self driving car as I'll probably ever drive. (I have started to fatigue when driving over 5 hours but didn't while driving it.)

There are a lot of bad comments out there. The only negatives we've seen are from the info LCDs. Get went black a couple of times but the firmware was updated a few days later. We haven't had any issues since then. We got 24 mpg despite a fair amount of start and stop traffic. Nearly everything could be controlled through the steering wheel buttons.

Before her promotion we had upgraded to a Rav4 mostly because of how Toyotas hold their value. It's been barely a year (6 months of it being MY primary) and I don't care for it. There's always something wrong. I want to put my fist through the constant "service" messages that keep taking over my digital speedometer.

20 year road warrior here. I average 40-50k miles/year. Have had company cars and car allowances.

I always chose a Chevy Impala w/ upgrades for company car. Comfortable, can fit four to five people. Good trunk space. Can use 87 or 89 octane gas.

For car allowances, have had Volvo S60, Audi A5, & on my 3rd Mercedes. First two MB were C300s. Great car. I hated the new interior with everything controlled by a tablet. Got the E450. Game changer. I see why the E class is their "work horse" model.

More comfortable than the Audi. Fits 4 adults. Great trunk space. Excellent sound system (a must for all the driving). Best self-driving & lane assist in cruise mode I've had in any vehicle (rent car or owned). Safety features like geofencing and alerts when my car is possibly hit in a parking garage. These give a ton of peace of mind as a business traveler. Best emergency response and roadside assistance.

Never buy brand new. I got a program car with 7k miles in December 2023. I'm almost to 60k miles now and it runs like the day I bought it. These engines are tough and built to last. Just make sure you keep regular & on-time service schedule.
