I've got a few friends who were Green Berets (3rd Special Forces Group), one of whom was wounded twice in combat and received the Silver Star and another retired a Lt. Colonel and they are some tough MFers.
Surprised no one has brought up the baddest unit ever. All other pale in comparison!

Couple of other things. During the peak of the Iraq surge, Delta was taking a lot of casualties, so they started plugging in regular SF guys. Some of them stayed on without ever going through selection or the OTC.
Line units are so well trained now that they're capable of tasks that used to be the exclusive domain of SOF. I had an 82nd 1SGT tell me "give me the Ranger training budget and equipment and my guys could do everything they do." While that may not be completely true, there is an element of truth to it. Would be an interesting experiment . One thing for sure, if all you do is patrol, patrol, patrol, you're better at it than the guy who spent last month training to scale buildings and the month before that learning how to tap fiber optic lines.

There was a show on this years ago that played out simulations from specialists. It was bad arse, can’t remember the name of the show but I’m pretty sure the end result was some Nepalese special forces or something, next was the spetsnaz and then seals.

Without a doubt the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division

That pic seems high quality for 1943.
You can search the pic. It's actually a pretty famous photo.
Here is another photo of the same group.

David Goggins claims Air Force paratrooper training is harder than BUDs and is more water intensive. He said this to a class I was in on a SEAL base

Not SOF in the conventional sense of the word, but the Danish Sirius Patrol is an elite unit that does dogsled patrols of northeast Greenland in two man teams

That show on the Discovery channel that highlighted the different branches special operators said the same thing. Said it was probably toughest of any American SF training.
I don't remember it being all that water intensive, but it's been years since I saw that show.

He said that for him it was the toughest and then the second phase of BUDs. I used to be obsessed with being a Navy officer so I used to know stuff like this. Not so much anymore.
We had a Force Recon scout sniper at LSU/Southern who was a gunny at the time I was there. That dude was freaking spooky and was the quietest person in the unit

I have a friend whose dad was a Marine recon guy (Raider or MARSOC I can't keep up with all the name changes) in Vietnam and he was the exact same way. The old man was eerily quiet and always seemed to be observing everything around him.
He didn't seem unstable or psychotic or anything. He was just a really intense, serious guy.
