You’ve never heard of them and probably never will.

The thing to keep in mind is when comparing Special Mission Units is that they are trained for special missions. They all play sports but aren't superior in the same sports.

Delta has different strengths compared to DEVGRU, you wouldn't send DEVGRU on a mission where the 75th Regimental Recon would be more capable.

People also forget units like the ISA and the 24th STS while less talked about they are also stacked with meat-eaters.

Pick a mission and/or a specific set of metrics and you can identify the best Tier 1s in those roles, at least from the US. It is hard to compare around the world until we start livestreaming missions and keeping stats.

I've known some SF dudes and they all told me the same thing - it's what's between the ears that makes a person a true badass - not the ability to take a 2 x 4 to the noggin.

Gonna go out on a limb, but the special forces unit that's keeping the Third Reich alive.

They're so good at their job, they probably do exist somewhere, but you didn't realize they possibly could have until now.

I’ve read about and watched interviews of the kinds of missions they take on… They suck arse - their missions, that is.

Most of the time it’s a bunch of security work for the high ranking diplomats. Basically the security that most contractors do but for the highest ranking people.

Maybe I’m naive in believing what these ex Recon guys were saying.

Air Force ParaRescue should to be mentioned. They are called when special forces units need medical assistance. LINK

Yeah they pin their ears back and get after that arse. You gotta have that killer instinct. Whether it be football or special ops.

Mexican cartels have a few bad-asses.

And don’t ever rule out the Korean SFs.

FORECON is a Tier 2 unit and would be one step down in security details to DEVGRU which is also task with security. They overlap significantly with DEVGRU in both green and black ops so kinda hard to argue they are THE elite.

FORCON fits into the area of non-DEVGRU SEAL teams, Marine Raiders, USAF CCT, Rangers (not counting the 75th RRC), SF, and Asymmetric Warfare Group.

In this elite stratosphere, you would be talking about specifically the 24 STS (which I mentioned) and MAYBE some of the other STS units but not pararescue in general.

In the end, if you ignore mission profile and specific assets and are just looking for the saltiest meat-eaters in the US military as a unit the list starts and stops with DEVGRU and Delta.

The first rule of RRC is you don't talk about RRC.

ISA

Task Force Orange? LOL...they are a signals gathering entity.

The 2-4...some professionals no doubt...JSOC isn't sending a bunch of 2-4 CCTs and PJs to assault a target.

In Afghanistan circa 2009, the 75th Ranger Regiment conducted combat operations in the Kunar Province bravely. I was with the 2nd ID in the same AO and they were cut from a different cloth.

True warriors.

I think they deserve a mention on the modern battlefield. Their operators are often black bagged and isolated with little meaningful support/exfil and operate under the umbrella of plausible deniability. You will also find SIGINT/HUMINT operators in the field with Delta and DEVGRU.
