I'm always looking for an older GX for a good deal. Obviously, those deals aren't out there currently, but for the past few years I'll do some searches regionally.

Small SUV and 3rd row space are contradictory in my opinion.

The GC is a full sized SUV

I've died on this hill but nobody thinks of the GC as full size anymore. That it is arguably a benchmark for the entire full size SUV category is irrelevant, it became considerably smaller than competitors and crossovers (because they got larger).

As an adult male, I wouldn't own an SUV smaller than a GC. Relatively, I think it's mid-sized compared to the market. But it's the perfect SUV size for single dudes IMO, it's not a burden in the city but is still large enough for daily comfort/travel.

7 years and only 30k can quite literally be the designated grocery getter. I put 30k on in 2 years! I have an RX 350L and it is a fun drive. Front end is ugly, but I don't have to sit on that.

TBH even in this environment some of the best deals I've seen were GXs. Especially if you're willing to go back before the redesign (which some people prefer due to the front end).

If you can fit in a 3rd row, it's not a small SUV

The Yukons/Tahoes of the world are just large SUVs and the Yukon XL/Suburban are jumbo SUVs (that nobody other than hardcore catholics should own)

The Volkswagen Atlas

Fully loaded is less than $55. We have a 2018 and love it. Tons of space with the third row folded down, and the 2nd row (bench or captains chairs) slides back for plenty of room on long trips. We didn't test drive anything else- we borrowed a friends Atlas and loved it.

The Volkswagen Atlas looks really good as well and a great price point imo and looks like a high end suv. The 4motion trim package has all wheel drive

Came here to say this. The price point on them as well. We have been looking at them for when my wife's Acadia finally craps out.

I found one for a steal earlier this year. One owner, all maintenance records, low miles, blah, blah, blah. Of course the wife didn't want it because it didn't have CarPlay. The plan was for her to drive it for 2 years when my daughter turns 16, I give my 4Runner to the kid, I take the GX, then buy her what she really wants. But nope.

Small SUV, is this even a discussion? Pick a Sabaru and don't look back. Quality, reliability, safety, low price. My wife had a Highlander, I bought an Outback, she wanted one too, now we two Outbacks.

The wife has a 2021 Platinum Hybrid Highlander, gets near 40 around town and mid 30s on the highway. She loves it. Gas mileage will become more and more important.

My wife is probably getting a Porsche Macan next year

That is a great car. I have nothing but good to say about the Porsche brand. I have a Cayenne S - I just wanted a bigger vehicle, and I have a 2019 - the 2019 MY for Cayenne has the new interior, instruments, etc that Macan doesn't get until MY 2022 I believe, and I thought the interior in the '19 and '20's I was looking at looked a little dated compared to the Cayenne's interior. If one doesn't have a problem spending that kind of $, one would be hard pressed to do better than the Macan in that segment. In a normal market, I would say go CPO for that car (Porsche's CPO program is excellent), but with update coming soon and used car price increases relatively outstripping increases in new car prices, I would think seriously about buying new and maybe even ordering.

That’s incredible for such a big car.

I think they use a CVT, which I don’t like. But if anyone can perfect that, it’s Toyota.

Nissan is the only one that has widespread problems with the CVTs, though I think they're fairly new in Toyota's. Honda has been using them since the late 90's in some models. I think all the CRV's now use CVT.

Rav4 Plugin Hybrid.

I can tow my 19' boat with it, I never pay for gas, it's super quiet. My kid can sleep like the baby she is. It'll beat almost anything else off the line.

This.

Wife’s (no pics of her) is a loaded-out ‘17, it now has 65k miles on it, zero issues so far.

It allegedly seats 5 persons but I wouldn’t want to be in the rear middle seat for a long time.

Barring accident, we’ll keep it at least 5 more years.

NXs for the US market are built in Japan.
