I stopped by simple Simon because I was in the area and they gave me an estimate of $640 for 4 tires installed (something I've never heard of called Pegasus Advanta) does this sound high? I'm right down the road from skid marks in Gonzales and plan to stop by there next. My bro in law is recommending allied pretty hard. I appreciate the replies here.

Amazon then get them installed. Saved about $200 the last time I got new tires.

He didn't state he needed the same place to do the alignment - I've purchased tired from Sams or Costco and had another dealer perform the alignment - I don't really care - it's all about where he can get the best price.
Skidmarks in Gonzales couldn't even purchase the tires I needed at the price that I was going to buy them from Sams.

2004 XLT has 17" Rims
2004 Lariats have 18" Rims
And that's assuming its the new body style, not the 2004 heritage.

Honestly, tire prices aren't going to fluctuate TOO much from one place to another. Markup on tires isn't that high, probably 10-20%. Tire stores make their money on volume. Concentrate on the recommendations that say that they did good work. The last thing you want is a crappy shop to forget to tighten those lugs. Skid Marks and NTB are pretty decent. Just make sure you request, or at least ask, what they torque your tires to. If they can't tell you, then you'll need your fat friend to stand on the 4-way to get those lugs off on the side of the interstate.

My old '04 silverado isn't driven a whole lot since it's a third vehicle. Really only use it maybe once or twice a month. Really need some new tires on it but don't feel like spending $1k on a truck that's worth maybe $4k. My Michelin M/S tires have lasted about 7 years and 50k miles, but they look like they are rotting and could pop any day now.

There's nothing wrong with used tires. The three main things to know about used tires are 1) how much tread are left on them. Treads tend to have a "wear bar" on them. It's a little bump between the tread. If the top of the tread is anywhere near the wear bar, I wouldn't buy them. 2) If you see any dry rot, I wouldn't buy them. 3) If tread is good and there is no dry rot, you still want to see how old they are. The older the tire, the more likely they'll be dry rotted and you just don't know about it. You can actually tell when a tire was manufactured just by looking at the DOT number. The date of manufacture is the last four digits of the DOT code. The first two digits are the week of manufacture, and the last two digits are the year. For example, if the last four digits of the DOT code are 0203, that means that the tire was manufactured during the second week of the year 2003. I wouldn't buy a tire over 7 years old.
