Needs to have a good school, assuming private. If you had to pick a place.

Oak Grove, Sumrall, Baxterville, Poplarville. In that order. And you can do all public school.

Don't want to be on the water and will be on acreage.
Think Purvis - Columbia - McComb, south to the state line.

As someone who lives in Hattiesburg this is all kinds of wrong. OG is trash now infested with woke BS. Sumrall and Purvis are ok but all of Lamar county’s schools are under the same superintendent who’s not good. Petal is the school you want to be in if you’re going public in the pine belt. They’re the number 1 district in the state and don’t put up with the woke BS. They’re superintendent just turned down an appointment to the be the States Superintendent of Education. If my wife wasn’t employed in petal and my kids get to go there they’d be going to PCS (Private).
I would never consider sending my kids to either of the other schools you cited.

Hattiesburg has been a very underrated place to live for like 20 years now. Nice college town with good restaurants, nice golf courses, and everything you need not that far away and close by.
Only 6 hours to the mountains of eastern Tennessee and less than 3 hours from some nice Florida beaches.

Awesome monologue. Now go back and read the OP, genius.

You’re the one who just suggested all the Hattiesburg places which are 45-60 mins from LA. Based on what he wants it’s the BSL/Diamondhead area. I was simply pointing out how wrong your assessment was of the current situation in Hattiesburg. You wouldn’t be wrong if it were 20 years ago.

Purvis, schools are much, much better. Unless you want to pay for private school. Nothing on 98.
North Pike is a good school district. Brookhaven Public and county schools are Ok.
South pike, McComb, Tylertown, and Marion County not no but hell no
If you are looking on the 84 corridor. That’s probably better. Any down 84 in Lincoln county will put you in the Brookhaven School District. Lawrence County is actually not bad, Jeff Davis I am not sure.
If y’all currently live in a city and you choose Lawrence County your family will be in for let’s say a shock.

It has some decent sized city amenities while still feeling fairly small.
And it being the “hub city” which is a relatively short hop from most places in the south (Memphis, NOLA, MS gulf coast, Atlanta, Pensacola, etc) means that even if you aren’t there full time it isn’t necessarily a bad area to be based out of.

Why do 55 and 59 year old people need school?

Moved to Poplarville for a while and it ticked the boxes for us, close enough to anything, somewhat rural, and good schools.
