Some guy did a study, held up different signs, etc. The handicap day averaged about $24/hr.

At Siegan and I-10 they have a gig going. White woman, black guy, white guy doing shift work. They all use the same sign.
I always give them ketchup packets. That way when they get that food they are looking for they already have the condiments.

We have a crew here that hangs out next to an overpass except they have a stack of a hundred signs that they rotate.

wheelchair guy on college drive always has some good ones, last one i remember was a few years ago he had a sign after the Florida game that said "bet all my money on Florida and now I'm homeless"

A big yellow smiley-face.
Sounds kind of stupid, but I was stuck in traffic on an interstate off-ramp and the guy had it folded up. He kept it folded when the cars were moving, but when they stopped he slowly unfolded it, kind of like a smile spreading across his face. It did make me smile, and I actually might have given him something had I stopped near him.

I ran into a guy in a convenience store that grew up in my neighborhood, law degree, attorney banned from bar, said he just got out from Fed prison doing 20 years on RICO charges. He said he pulls between $200 - $300 a day at intersections around Baton Rouge. Whether true, I don't know....

I always thought it was interesting that they only use cardboard for sign. EVERYONE knows what you're doing out here and that you make pretty damn good money considering. Take a couple of bucks walk over to the Office Depot and upgrade that paper for a white board brah!

Heard this story from my supervisor. He and his little boy were in baton rouge and a panhandler had three signs. First said "Need Money", second said "Need Food", last sign said "frick it Show Your Tits".
