If you’re looking for a weekend trip I’d recommend Covington. Stay at the Southern Hotel on Boston St and you’re walking distance from everything “downtown” covington has to offer. Unfortunately they’re closing Oxlot 9 soon, the restaurant inside the hotel. But there’s still a nice bar inside. Another restaurant will take over but not sure when. Del Porto is across the street which is one of the best Italian restaurants around, Nola included.

Agreed on the hotel. Ox lot is a solid choice, but give me Gallagher’s for a similar price point.

I have been numerous times and do not share your view on the food. It is okay. Not great, at times, not even good, but simply okay.
In no way is Del Porto a top Italian restaurant in the metro area in my experience. I honestly hate when friends suggest it as a place to meet up. It has a reputation it simply doesn’t deserve imho. Needless to say, we will agree to disagree on that restaurant.

Downtown Baton Rouge isn’t really unsafe compared to New Orleans. The Louisiana state museum is free for kids too. Nice Saturday morning trip for the kids.

It takes about 10 seconds to go from Louisiana to Mississippi at Natchez. You’d be dumb not to consider it in this context.

I remember downtown Amite being decent 20 years ago. Not sure if it held up.

Del Porto is overrated and the owner thinks it’s fine for people to burn down businesses when they’re upset just FYI.

That's an understatement.

You stay in Natchez, and head over to Downton Ferriday.

quote:Ah Yes. “They built it. Let them burn it down” I think is what the owner said at the height of the Saint George Floyd beatification. It was entertaining to see that lady covering her backside. Big-time crawfishing once people threatened to boycott. An insecure liberal looking for a group to think with…
