I believe the U.S. Army will still train you to be an aviator if you have a H.S. Diploma, Can pass the 5 hour entrance exam and pass a Class I flight physical and have vision correctable to 20/20
It was a great opportunity in 1968 and I still think it is one of the best deals going for a young person.

I'd recommend working on a rig or construction. Both are always hiring and have good wages. If you present yourself well and stand out from the pack while working construction, you could work your way up and make a pretty nice living. Best of luck to you.

i work in midland texas as a frac engineer. most of our frac hands never graduated high school, yet make 70K starting salary. after 2 years they are clearing 6 figures if you include their yearly bonus. and every frac company is hiring. Really pissees me off hearing about how there are no jobs in this country. there are plenty in West Texas. people would just rather bitch about not having the opportunities instead of actually job searching.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what you do. If you are exceptionally good, you will keep moving up. Just go find any job and never get loyal to the company.

Any kind of trade can make good money if they work hard.
Posted on 6/5/14 at 9:16 pm to BowlJackson
Learn a trade, and start your own business. It is just as rewarding as getting a BA, and working a soul sucking job. It will save you the time and money by not going to college, and you'll enjoy yourself. There's very few jobs making 6 figs, and most who say they do are making shite up.

Also, take a hard look at the Air Force. You'll travel, and they will teach you a skill that can progress to a lot of money when you leave the military. I have an engineering degree, and probably would've went into the AF if I had to do it again.

Bro. Lots of good advice in here. Prolly the best was get rid of that demon debt. That truck has made you a slave.
I don't know about frac hands. I do know about trying to hire welders. The rates are going to go up 15%-20% a year for the next five years. You can easily make $60 - $100K if you learn to heliarc. ABC school is your friend. Associated Builders and Contractors will make you very comfortable quickly if you pour every extra second into it.

Truth. I have 4 years left in the note though. If I could sell it and make enough to pay off the note and get an older beater so I can get around then I probably would. Not sure if that's an option right now though.
I'm definitely going to check into most of what's been said in this thread though.
I'm also taking a trip soon to see my uncle who is a retired chaplain and Lt. Col. from the Air Force. He's going to introduce me to some people in some careers that he thinks would be good for me, but if I could convince him to give me a rec into the Air Force I'd like to go that route. I'm not sure how that will turn out though because I'd be 23 by the time I even got started in the military and both Army and Marine recruiters have told me no based on a past conviction for marijuana possession.
