Mainly looking for current students or recent grads' opinions. What complexes offer the best combination of location, amenities, safe environment, and value? Preferably within walking distance of campus. Thanks in advance for the legitimate replies :)

Beau Chene because it's right next to Am Mart. One of the best in the 90's at least.

Grand Cypress is the tits. Behind the old Mr. Gattis. Lived there 3 years. Back gate opened up to campus. Was perfect for tailgates.

Brightside Estates

You can walk, but it's easier to take the bus.

It really depends what your price range is. I live on the south side of campus about 2 blocks from the BEC. In this area you either pay 800+ for rent and live in a nice place or you pay 600 a month and live in an ok place. The area as a whole from highland to Nicholson I feel is totally safe. I have no qualms about walking home from the bars or to the gas station at 2 am. Its just all about what your willing to pay. The hardest part is finding an open apartment.

I personally have had better experiences with smaller complexes or privately owned condos. The landlords are much more accommodating especially at my current place. They make my life easy by getting stuff fixed in a timely manner and keeping a generally overall decent curb appeal. In exchange I cause no trouble and pay my rent on time.

University Crossroads. Gated complex behind Chimes and Barcadia. On Willard St. Nice mix of undergrad and grad students. Reasonable value, not too noisy of a living area.

The Chateau (formerly Country Club II) on Alvin Dark. It's under new ownership and management. Undergoing a complete renovation and will be gated.

Summer Grove on brightside is fantastic and safe (gated). Not exactly walking distance but when you consider just taking River Road to campus it's pretty close

Its mostly condos- we used to have building wide parties back in the day, bonfires included. No one called the cops because the owners were at the parties. Am-mart and brewbachers were the bonus. Great times.

I lived in Heatherstone when I was at LSU and I was surprised more students didn't live there.

I had some buddies live in Summer Grove off Brightside. They had like a 3 story townhouse and rent was pretty good.
