cranberry sauce

True story. My BIL is a career Navy man. When they were newlyweds, my sister made a fancy cranberry sauce and he wouldn't eat it. She had to go out and get the kind that plops out of the can because that's what they serve in the chow hall.

That's my theory. He volunteered for it to score points and never got around to it. Panicked at the last second and brought in the frozen turkeys hoping some of the old women would bail him out and he'd still get partial credit. Didn't work out for him (or the rest of us).

Best is stuffing, hands down.

Worst is that nasty arse fruit salad with marshmallows in it. I avoid that like the plague every year.

I'm not a huge Thanksgiving food kind of guy. If it was so dam good why do we only eat most of it once a year. My girlfriends family does the traditional turkey dinner (blah), but my family does our Italian feast (hell yes).

Not good (Her Family):

Turkey (always dry)
Cranberry sauce
Sweet Potatoes
Asparagus
Green Bean Casserole (always runny)
Baked Potatoes

Good:

Pizza Casserole
Lasagna
Marinara Meatballs
4 Cheese Bread
Italian Bread
Cesar Salad

Also, cranberry sauce with EVERYTHING.

Uncle Pete cooked the turkey too long and it dried out? Get that bird wet with cranberry sauce.

Aunt May choked the life out of the dressing with too much flour or bread crumbs? CPR with cranberry sauce.

Cousin Billy forgot to bring butter, the ONLY THING YOU ASKED HIM TO BRING? Spread you on some cranberry sauce.

Man I'm ready to eat.

Best: Green bean and artichoke casserole. I literally ate so much as a kid on year I puked and had to take about a 5 year hiatus from it.

Worst: Cranberry sauce.

I wouldn’t judge cranberry sauce from that can garbage in as much as I wouldn’t with asparagus, or beets, or pretty much anything out of a fricking can.

Cranberry reduction sauce made from fresh cranberries is pretty damn tasty.
