Have a 9yo boy 3rd base / Pitcher with some potential
What are the MUST DOs and MUST NOT DOs?
Baseball was my distant 3rd sport growing up...so I am all ears.

Teach him to throw a curve ball as soon as possible. Make sure he pitches at least 100 innings during summer travel ball.

Let him have fun playing the game. It's really hard to determine potential at 9yo. He'll have plenty of time to show his potential as he grows up and the game gets more serious.
This is the time he needs to develop a love for the game.

It is up to him. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Kobe became the greatest ever because of their will and ultra competitive nature, not because of their dads. I don't think that is something you can teach. Don't be "that guy".

Only let him use wood bats so when the Yankees come calling he'll be ready.

Copenhagen long cut is a good staring point at that age.
They're still pretty young, so they might want to try that Skoal Berry blend shite. Just no pouches. You don't want a team full of pussies.

Yell at the coach for not having the outfielder use him as the cutoff instead of the shortstop. Yell at the ump for calling strikes on your kid. Yell at the other team's coach just because. Just yell a bunch and your kid will bust his arse to get a single-A contract.

What are the MUST DOs and MUST NOT DOs?
Must Dos:
1. Learn fundamentals
2. Focus on control and pitch location
3. Realize at this age it is about learning and being competitive
4. Long toss to build arm strength.
Must not do:
1. Ignore fundamentals
2. Focus on throwing hard
3. Learn a bunch of different pitches
4. Worry more about winning and having the best 9 year old instead of learning the game and learning how to compete.

Scream at him as much as possible. Make him play in every tournament so that he doesn't have any free time for other things. Openly chastise him in front of his teammates whenever he screws up. Threaten coaches, referees, and other parents to show your commitment.

Well, don't hesitate and get him on a travel ball team ASAP.
Yell at him if he becomes tired of 3 hours a day of baseball practice.
Do not let him have fun during summers such as swimming in a pool or running around in the woods. This will affect Mr. some potential's major league draft status.

Your kid will either be good enough to make the highschool/college/show or he won't be. Spending tons of money on lessons, getting the best gear on the planet, or raffling shite for the team won't change that.
Take him to the batting cages, work some drills like on youtube, and in general just be there. That way, even when he probably doesn't make it, he will get the warm and fuzzys because he hung out with his dad.
