You do know some black people don't use the N-word, right?
In our youth most ppl wouldn't use it.
I can't imagine the scorn a kid would have gotten white or black if they said that in front of one of my teachers growing up.

I wouldn't personally use it.
I honestly have no idea what my ancestor went through.
Teacher could have done it differently possibly. But isn't part of maturing process learning not to lose your shite?
100% agree. I think the bigger matter here is helping him control his emotions even in really upsetting situations. That'll take that young man further than that N word discussion

We agree what do we talk about now lol
Teacher was antagonizing him a little. My good teachers would have shut it down, and made their point. Lol

So is "Jew" but you don't see them losing their shite over it do you?
I've seen Jews get upset over anti-Semitic language. One time, when I was younger, I checked a dudes for using "Jew" in a degratory fashion. That guy later apologized to me and admitted that he was in the wrong for what he said.

Okay, guys. We've talked the shite out of this yet again. This being probably the 145th thread on the topic.
Everyone here says they don't use the word. Only see it on internet videos and music.
I for one am exhausted over this topic.
My care meter has dropped significantly concerning this.

Should I be offended when I hear the word, ginger? My hair is reddish brown. I do have a soul, dammit!

I'm sure you are greatly venerated for your original thoughts, and were at 16 years old as well.
We would never hear people like you repeat what they hear from the pundits of say, Fox News, would we?
None of that is relevant to my comments. I'm addressing the substance of his remarks not whether or not he did ok for being 16. He didn't say anything insightful yet we're supposed to laud him because he recited some shallow left wing rhetoric. Be impressed with him all you want, I'm not.
And FWIW, yes, I could provide more depth to an argument than that when I was 16. Again, you seem to think that speech was much more impressive than I do. It's pretty easy to get up there and point out that the teacher's language was completely inappropriate. I agree with him there. The rest of what he said, however, was cliche leftist identity tripe.

I am a fan of hip hop and the word used with an "a" at the end is part of the "hip hop culture".
This is a conversation I had with black people. The people I had this conversation with agreed that it is okay to say it with the song because its not like when I use it in the song, it suddenly has a different meaning because I am white.
I can just see you driving down the road "singing" the hook to "I Came to Bring the Pain" with Lil Flip...
quote:
[Lil' Flip] I came to bring the pain ****!
[Static] And I came to bust them things ****
[Lil' Flip] The night'll rearrange your frame ****
[Lil' Flip] You scared ****!
[Static] You scared ****!
[Lil' Flip] One more time
[Lil' Flip] I came to bring the pain ****!
[Tity Boi] And I came to change the game ****
[Lil' Flip] The night'll rearrange your frame ****
[Lil' Flip] You scared ****!
[Tity Boi] You scared ****!
[Lil' Flip] Oh oh!
Obviously, NSFW Youtube video

When you're white, you skip it or substitute another word at that point...

I went to Franklin. If I used that party mouth language, the dyke count of a vice principal would have tried to expel me.

I agree that context and relationship are important for this type of emotional discussion.
However, this a permenant substitute teacher and a coach at the school. He's not so,e random guy and seems he's worked there for a while. Also, this type of intellectual discussion and "pushing" of students used be commonly accepted at intellectual institutions. This is Ben Franklin, not Inner City School #5. They are known for challenging the status quo.
I, personally, wouldn't have pushed this conversation when I saw how upset the student was. Perhaps the multi-cultural forum they had would have been a better place to challenge this word. He was not demeaning the student, but the student was offended. The teacher pushed for a learning moment but the student wasn't ready.

Class of '98. My dad had a vip seat in Cristen's office. That bitch had a target on me and my brother's back.
Tews was my homie.
eta....I recall one time I was in her office and she told my dad that he wasn't doing a good job of raising his kids. (I'm a lawyer/bro is an engineer)
He looked that fat bitch in her face and said "excuse me, bitch. How many kids have you raised?"
We got up and left her office to silence.

Most of these kids are smarter than their mothers and part time fathers. Good for the kid not being the stereotypical 11%'er.

When are we going to have the Nazi style book burning of Mark Twain's racist stories? Cleanse us of that word. Let's do this!!!
