Ditch that bitch. There isn't going to be any meaningful relationship.

Sounds like the Young and the Restless! Seriously, that is a sad story and I think they have earned the right to do what ever feels right for themselves and will make them happy for the rest of their lives. You could say, she abandoned us so screw her, or you could treat her with the compassion you would a stranger in that situation. I honestly don't know what I would do since I didn't live it.

Sounds like my dad. He left right when I was born. Next time I saw him I whipped his arse in a bar fight for naming me Sue.

After reading all this self-righteous indignation, anger and resentment, all of which are for more damaging to the person possessing them than who they are directed at, I think I might call up my estranged father.
He was a POS, but so was my mom, and the anger I have towards them hasnt harmed them a bit. It certainly has harmed me though.

The two kids should do whatever will make them feel right once she is gone BUT they should not let their own families suffer financially or for attention while they are doing for this woman who abandoned them.

Tell the woman they forgive her and leave. They have no obligations to keep the woman up or provide for the woman.

I’d tell her that I’m tired of being a daughter and everything that came with it. Sound familiar?
