re: Being a teacher doesn't sound like a bad gig

being a coach is an even better gig. Relative coaches at 5A school, gets paid to teach, coach, detention, and any minor sport he wants to deal with( soccer, swimming, golf etc) he gets a stipend.

All he has to deal with is parents who think their kids are Pro material (that may be reason enough to do not it)

I send my son to private Catholic schools just like my parents did me. Teachers are dumb, but they're nice.

I didn't have an impressive teacher until 4000 level mechanics in college...his first words were, "Im not here to teach you physics."

Part of the complaining comes from the fact the state and many individual parishes keep asking more and more from teachers without any type of incentive.

I don't find teaching hard, frustrating, but not hard. It is aggravating to see people at the school board get raises based on what I'm doing in the classroom and I'm told I accepted the position so I shouldn't complain.

I don’t doubt that at all, but my mom is a teacher so I’ve heard stories. One student can ruin an entire classroom, you can have 24 good kids but 1 bad kid can ruin and disrupt the entire class. But, I guarantee you if more men were teachers, behavioral problems would drop drastically.

I would love to be a history teacher in high school, but I wouldn’t want to do it because you don’t have much wriggle room with the curriculum that is pushed.

On here I have seen mostly posts complaining about teachers complaining. Funny to me. I teach and coach. I have it pretty easy for the most part. Middle school. Block schedule so kids have half classes on 1 day half on other day. Because I coach I teach only 4 history classes. Have 2 athletic classes and have a hour and half conference every day. I haven’t brought work home in 2 years because I get my work done at school. I do get there early so I can do some work. Coaching wise I coach 2 sports get my 2 head coach stipends Which don’t amount to much. Get my extra $20 on game days driving the bus go away games. Best part is due to the block schedule our athletic period is long enough that every other day our practice is during school. So those days I go home when the bell rings.
I won’t complain too much. I’ve taught inner city kids and now teach in the suburbs. I really have only 1 student who gives me discipline issues now. I love coaching and I love getting into discussions with my students.

Kids can be bad but parents are the worst

I have t graded papers till 9 since my first year. Would be worse if I was a English teacher reading essays all the time. But I get all my grading done during school time. Getting double the conference most teachers get helps.
