A Moby Dick style whale died in Mobile Bay once.

Well, he may be referring to the 11' alligator that thought it was a salt water crocodile, swimming in the same area a couple of years ago. Or, perhaps, he's referring to the dismembered stripper who was chucked off the bay bridge and washed ashore in pieces everywhere from Bay St Louis to Long Beach. Or maybe he's referring to Katrina debris.

I had no idea they had whales in the GOM
They usually don't let them in from the Atlantic but this one must have slipped past the net

From that pic, it looks like a Bryde’s whale, which are very endangered. They believe less than 100 are left in the GOM.
99 now.

I have heard other ocean mammals like dolphins and porpoises doing the same thing. They do it sometimes when they are sick too. There have been stories where biologists were called early enough and would take them into captivity and nurse them back into health. Just like people, they can be stubborn animals too. Sometimes they rescue an animal and escort it out to sea, only to have them swim back to the beach.
Maybe the whale ran afoul of the wrong pod.

You can sometimes find some uncut bricks of nose candy for Wayne Toups wash up on any gulf coast beach. From smugglers they get spooked and ditch the cargo or they don’t make it across.
Heck if we were on the northwest pacific coast, Yeti’s have been washing since a a few shipping containers fell into the ocean in transit.

We saw and observed one in the early 70,s that beached itself at Coup’ Colin ,Isle Denieres.
My buddies and I were about 13 or 14 years old at the time. We were staying on the island at various camps. The seas were calm and we could run on the Gulf side in our 14 foot flat boats.
The sharks swarmed that whale for a couple of days. We would run our flat boats amongst the sharks and piss them off. Lots of fun.
