People should have an emergency fund in place all the time, so occasions like this don’t matter.

Other than being common sense, the Great Depression generation preached that you should always have property tax on your house in cash on hand. The government might put a moratorium on your mortgage, but not their tax revenue.

I keep a couple months worth of expenses in cash.
