The Monroe airport is overbuilt for a city of its size because it was the international headquarters for Delta Airlines from shortly after its founding until they moved it to Atlanta.

I am not saying it is not a nice airport, with huge runways for an airport it's size. It is about 1300 feet short of what a 777 requires for take-off.

Fully loaded, yes.
I am familiar with an airplane that requires a longer runway than the 777, fully loaded, yet that plane routinely takes off on runways about the same size as MLU.
