Tell me how great your life is, and what ice shape you have.
One of work locations had top hat shape. It was nice for change not what I would want for home though.

I've been considering getting an under the counter one put in. The ones in refrigerators suck.

What I really want to know is about baws with in home McDonalds ice cream machines and how often they really are broken?

These are nice to suck on but they don’t last too long if you suck them hard.

I have a Sonic icemaker.
It’s a gamechanger

I put in the Hoshizaki sonic ice machine when I renovated my kitchen this summer. It kicks arse being able to reach in and scoop a big ole cup of ice whenever I want. Or to fill a cooler on demand. Beats the hell out of the ones in the door of the freezer. Especially when I want to fill a big insulated cup to take to the office. Highly recommend installing one.

Mine makes the Sonic ice.
It's UNREAL how long it last.
Best. Purchase. Ever.

For under counter ice machines, You have the top hat (aka gourmet) cube (Scotsman and others), you have the approx 1" square cube with the dimple on one side (U-line), you have the flat half cube (Kitchenaid) and you have the sonic ice (Scotsman and others).
People with sonic ice love it. But heard you have to clean them more often.

Which one did you end up getting?

How about some links to theses ice makers too

Haven't bought one yet. Kids and wife want sonic ice. But since it isn't great for most cocktails, I wants something bigger but not the top hat size. We shall see who wins...

I have one in my garage and have for over 10 years. Its very convenient for me since I fish for a living and need Ice every day for drinks in the boat.
Mine is a Scotsman and the hopper holds about 70 pounds of ice. It is cubes.
The makers that do cubes are much more efficient and maintenance free than the one that make Crushed/shaved ice. Those style machines use a "screw" to make that shape and it us less reliable that the cubers.
The only negative issue I have is we are on a septic tank and have a drain running out in the woods behind my house for the drain. It makes a mess and stays wet all the time. If you are on a sewer, it would be much better to drain it.
Mine is air cooled and similar to this
The cubes look like this. They do melt faster than solid pieces in the cooler but last most of the day on the boat.

I have the uline with the hollow cube. I love having the ice machine in general and never use the freezer ice unless I need extra for an ice chest. But I hate the hollow ice. It seems to melt faster. Especially when you are pouring liquor over to make a drink, which is frequent.

Have one in the garage cranking out chikfila ice. Best thing ever.

The uline now gives you the ability to control the size of the dimple (ie hollowness of the cube). The square cube is 7/8" on all sides.
Is yours like this?

Lanier, that looks like the uline cube. Does it have a dimple on one side?
