For me it's just more stuff that can break.

Resale is shite if 2WD.

Unless never going to sell, makes sense to get 4wd regardless of use.

How do I know I'm never going to need it?

Yessir. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Technically AWD. All Subarus are AWD.

Only reason I have it is for the rare occasion that I have to pull my boat out of the water. It normally stays on a lift behind my house.

Mine though a vacuum was a gun. I don't think they need a 4wd, They need to stay home.

If I could I think I’d drive an el Camino. I’d like a car with the functionality of a bed.

It really doesn't though.
I used to feel like that myself. Then I figured out that it's only going to break, if I misuse it.
There have been a couple of times, when I lost the U-joint for the main drive. I pulled the rear driveshaft, threw it in the back and drove home with the front axle.
Now I know, it's better to have it, especially when it's time to sell or trade it.

Me and you could be best friends.
I love El Caminos.

I’ve owned 3 4x4 vehicles in my lifetime.

At some point I’ve needed that functionality with all three.

It’s like carrying a pocket knife. You don’t realize how often you need one until you stop carrying one.

Plus, I grew up in Central, I think it’s written in our creed somewhere…

If you have to use it even once, it's worth it.

I couldn’t imagine living in a world where I don’t require 4x4 capability periodically.

That sounds awful.

It's little dick syndrome. I'm a runner that lives in an upper middle class suburb. I run all throughout my cookie cutter, boring neighborhood every day and almost every driveway has one or more over compensating, obnoxiously large 4x4 trucks with aftermarket EVERYTHING. And they're usually lifted with massive off-road rated tires.

Come on, just stop. You all live in a gated subdivision on your .25 acre plot of land with an HOA and a community pool, just like me. You're not hauling hay bales or moving cattle or pouring concrete every day. You're in a cubicle, working on spreadsheets for accounts receiving.

I guess they need the $90K oversized truck to convince themselves they're real men despite the fact they may use the bed twice a year to move a larger than normal Costco grocery run.

I got one because I worked in West Texas a lot in areas with dirt roads and work sites. Within 6 months after I got it, that changed for me so now I have a 4x4 that I don't need. But I plan to drive it until I can't anymore. It's a 2012 and is very comfortable.

That reads a lot like projection.
