WWI Museum is planning a trip.

Now, you can sing Waltzing Matilda right there where Johnny Turk and Tommy Atkins fought.

I grew up in NOLA and from what I can see, none of the schools in the area ever covered the military history of any war in any kind of detail in any history or social studies class. You are on your own for that.

My experience in college is that you are on your own for military history unless you take one of the very few courses that focus on military history of one war or another.

Gallipoli is quite close to Istanbul and, IMHO, it would be easy to visit Istanbul during this trip.

I'm not sure that today's Turkey is a place that I want to visit, though.

Infantry was never part of Churchill’s plan. You can’t blame him for something that he didn’t want to happen.

You do realize that it's widely accepted that he greatly underestimated and poorly planned the entire operation using just ships. His overconfidence in obsolete ships got a ton of men killed including green teenagers from the Southern Hemisphere. They had NO idea of the determination and training of the enemy they faced on land.

Shoulda never been there muchless sending only ships.

The ships were outdated and served no use other than as a pawn to sacrifice. That was the plan.

Others jumped in, pushed the dates back, dragged it out, added infantry, and gave the Turks plenty of time and forewarning to bolster their defenses and know what was coming.

Stick to the plan, quick strike using the ships that were there to lose and you have a much higher probability of success. Instead we got the clusterfrick we got.

No infantry should have been involved. You can’t blame Churchill when the plan enacted WASNT HIS PLAN.
