Battle fought on "daily basis," West Ouachita High School trying to stop vaping epidemic

OUACHITA PARISH, La. (KNOE) - West Ouachita school officials say vaping has become a big problem in schools across the area. Students are now sneaking devices known as electronic cigarettes, e-cigs, or vapes into classrooms at West Ouachita High School, according to school nurse Kathy Rutledge, and it's putting their health at risk.
"It's a battle that we fight here at West Ouachita on a daily basis," Rutledge said.
Rutledge says within just a few months, school officials have confiscated hundreds of the devices and their pods, which hold the liquids. Although not all pods on the market contain nicotine, Rutledge says many of the ones they find at West Ouachita do.
"The selling pitch is that these are not as dangerous as cigarettes. I beg to differ," Rutledge said. "One of these Juul pods are equivalent to a pack of cigarettes."
Rutledge said the amount of nicotine loaded into the pods is very detrimental to the teenage brain. She says this allows the students to become addicted quicker.

I would guess that vaping is illegal for folks under 21, correct? If so, just have one or two individuals arrested for vaping at school and that shite will become a lot less trendy.

Nicotine bad for the developing brain. But it’s socially acceptable to perscribe them dextroamphetamine, amphetamine, and/or methylphenidate which is literal speed to help them focus

"The researchers administered nicotine to rats for five days through a mini-pump inserted under their skin. At high doses of nicotine, the degeneration was almost complete in the pathway.
"We initially gave relatively high doses of nicotine, and then reduced it to a dose that induces plasma levels of nicotine in rats comparable to those of two-pack-a-day smokers," Ellison said. "Even at this much lower dose, we still found degeneration in the tract. We measured the degeneration and found that the larger the dose, the more damage." "
So the nurse is saying teenagers are like rats. I'll allow it.
ETA:
"Ellison has studied the effects of drugs on the brain for more than 20 years. His research is funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the Tobacco Related Disease Research Program" so not entirely independent, I'd expect ALL his findings to be negative when his paycheck depends upon it.
