210 has been here 40 years. What would loop construction even look like in BR today? I can’t imagine. I’ve always felt BR could do itself a huge favor with some better placed/constructed on/off-ramps where I encounter bottlenecks.

20 miles of useless exits and on ramps and 5 Gordon signs between each

Best thing would be for some other city in Louisiana to start building a better system and take over. Ain’t gonna be St George as they’re too close to the problem.

That actually would be hilarious, have all the parishes around EBR come together to build/have built a series of i10 connecting roads that loop completely around the ebr.

Edit: yeh my dad talks about the mayor that was real anti development, I guess its the Dumas guy. frickin shortsighted per usual classic BR. We, in LA, have the roads we deserve for voting these psychos in.

huge neighborhoods have 1-2 ways in/out

This and the designers answer to everything is just put more traffic lights on already congested roads and have them on demand to trigger for cars just wanting to take a right turn. Perkins in particular is just a constant sea of red lights that last for 60-90 seconds with no one at the intersections

The biggest problem with BR is the politician density ratio is very high. Every time an idea was floated by one politician another one would fight it. Getting a loop built in Bawcomville would be easier than Baton Rouge.

Also, don’t forget Baton Rouge was envisioned as a college town and state capital. Limited traffic in and out.

It was never envisioned as a major city.

Katrina changed things a bit when it took out New Orleans.

Also, state government has been growing at an exponential rate. Too many bureaucrats and retired bureaucrats have setup shop in Baton Rouge from Lobbyists, special interests, current and former state legislators, current and former state workers, and others. They are all out to get a piece of the government pie.

Fresno, California has a metro population of 970,000 and has no interstate at all.

All those highways are state funded raised freeways. The Central Valley is flat and dry meaning roads can easily be made and in grid fashion without soft clay soil sinking, no rivers and bayous, and no wetlands required for drainage. California knows how to build roads, maintaining the roads-not so much.

I was reading about the early part of the 20th century and all of the political bosses the other day and honestly, it seems like La is still on that same system. But I still think, although not an expert, that if you got the "not stopping in BR traffic" off of i10/12 in the city then the regular streets wouldn't be backed up as bad. But what do I know.

It makes me so frustrated that 10 miles of traffic going EB every Friday from Grosse Tette to the curve past the bridge has been somehow okay to last this long. The Washington St. exit EB needs to be blown up and they can just make that lane continue I will give credit for the I-10 portion from bluebonnet to prairieville for getting revamped, but the rest is just so ugly and rugged.

Perfaps you missed the recent release of the first phase of the I-10 widening project from 415 to Essen.

Our state guv doesn’t “envision” ANYTHING!
Always reactive, decades behind. For as many problems SHV has, I’m amazed that they acquired funding for an i220 loop, 3132 southern loop, i49 both north & south, & really nice parkways on either side of Red River. They’re currently building main interchange from 220 that’ll connect into Barksdale AFB for their main gate. Fed money prob has a lot to with it, but could someone please enlighten me on why the infrastructure around the SBC is so much better?

bullshite.

Loop has been needed in BR since the late 80s

Because Dallas is Shreveport's big brother and the politicians and developers there wanted to emulate Texas's interstate style rather than more traditional La style.

Baton Rouge would probably be a lot better if they looked within instead of blaming Katrina for literally all of their problems

Baton Rouge population had minimal impact from Katrina

Lol.....like really big brother! SHV is like that one member of the Fam that has so much potential but can’t get its shat together. That began decades ago but sad nonetheless.

Nashville is also horrible

Roads are decades behind the explosion of growth and building going on.
